Old style building. Great atmosphere and fantastic burgers. Go here before a show at the van andel arena. It is just across the street.

“Surprise.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 9, 2012

Stopped into this restaurant by default. Downtown Grand Rapids was packed for ArtPrize and all restaurants seemed to have an hour to two hour wait. We were ready to leave town to eat somewhere else but my husband decided to stop in McFadden's to see about the wait. They could get in a table for 8 right away. My first response was to wonder what was wrong with the place if there was no wait. Nothing was wrong. I will agree with the others that they did seem understaffed. We had quite a wait for drinks and lunch, but the waitress was so cute and sweet, that we really didn't mind. Everyone enjoyed their meals and said they would love to return. (My niece and daughter both ordered chicken pot pie. The flavor was lovely with fresh herbs and a puff pastry top. At 14.95 it was a bit pricey for the amount of food, but both girls licked the plates clean.)

“Loud College Crowd”

Slow service, non impressive cusine, however couldn't say it was "poor". We came, we saw, we won't be back.

“surprisingly good”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 5, 2012

I was there with 2 friends before a show downtown. It seemed to be understaffed for the dinner crowd on a show night. Our waitress was also the bartender. There was a manager there at one point who seated us, but disappeared shortly afterwards. the other staff that was there were working their tails off to keep up. The menu had several good choices that I would have liked to try. We got there in plenty of time to enjoy happy hour. It took a while for our food to make it to our table, but I chalk that up to lack of staff.

“This not Tex-Mex”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 28, 2012

This is a big noisy Irish bar. Putting a mediocre burrito on the menu doesn't make it Tex-Mex. The food here is average pub grub.
