This is the place to stay in Grand Marias. Great view, clean and comfortable rooms and very nice and friendly owners. You won't be disappointed.

I had a strong feeling, when driving from Wawa, Ontario, that I would find a good place to stay in Grand Marais, MI without having a reservation. Cruised into town just as night fell and now find myself relaxing in bed after a HOT shower. Using the fan. Everything seems very very clean. The quality of the towels is much better than most motels. Free wi-fi of course. Plus fridge and micro. I get the feeling that these owners are working hard.. and it shows. I also thought it was a great value. Peaceful. Well-run.

Room Tip: rooms look out over lake. i am on level 2. probably best view.

We were kind of disappointed in the town, although that's not the hotel's fault. The hotel needs a little updating (new window in hot tub room, new doors on rooms) but it is in a great location with a beautiful view of the harbor. We paid over $90 for the room. Not a lot of value there. There's no air conditioner, but you don't really need one. The temperatures drop quite a bit at night by the lake so it felt great. Very quiet area.

This was a very clean motel and the hosts were nothing less than great. They didn't have AC in the rooms-but next to Lake Superior, how many times do you really need it. Just opened the windows and it was nice having the wind blowing through.

My husband and I traveled to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan last weekend for a 4 day snowmobile trip of the New Years holiday. We had not planned to stay in Grand Marais, but due to the poor snow conditions we moved from our originally planned hotel to the Voyageurs Motel. What a great unplanned surprise this motel was! My husband had been there years ago and remembered it positively, but it was my first visit. We were soooo impressed by how friendly the owners were and how clean the motel was. Our room was spotless and the hot tub / sauna was the cleanest we have ever experienced in all our travels (a lot). We were traveling with my sister-in-law, her husband and their kids. The hotel was very family friendly. Terry and Delphine arranged their room clean times around our schedule and helped out in many ways. The day we had to leave the temperatures dropped significantly and our truck would not start. Again, the owners went above and beyond to help us out and get us on our way safely. This is a business run by a husband and wife and they are very friendly and thoughtful. You feel like family by the end of your stay. On top of all this, the motel has awesome views (we watched the city fireworks at midnight on New Years right from our room) and is walking distance from everything in the town of Grand Marais. We walked just minutes into town for meals, church, hang out, etc. If you are looking for a basic motel in the Upper Peninsula, please consider giving the Voyageurs Motel your business. We have been recommending them to all our family.

My wife and I have stayed here multiple week ends, as well as a week at a time. We owned a 4 star bed and breakfast for 9 years, therfeore.when we travel, we are very picky about our lodging. Their cleanliness and attention to our comfort is un-equaled and we plan to make the Voyageur our get-a way destination for years to come.
Having been in the lodging business. we are very familiar with infrequent guests that choose to berate your business, for one reason or another, and are sickened that the owners have had to endure one of them. I can not imagine that the owners would have treated any incident other than with corection and concern.
Hidden agendas are usually the cause of many of these complaints,ie,refunds, free nites,or personal problems they bring with them. Not having an appreciation of the quiet beauty and solitude of the area gives some guests there is nothing to do in Grand Marais-which is exactly why we love it there.
