“Ideal Location, Great Staff!”

Rather than stay at a chain hotel on a busy highway, we opted for the Harbor House Inn, right across from the Grand River channel near the mouth of Lake Michigan. It's a lovely building with a nice screened porch, comfortable dining area and nice side lounge for television viewing, reading or game playing. The young woman who greeted us was warm and welcoming and gave us a thorough tour and overview of the facility. Our room was nicely decorated. A tiny negative was the loud air conditioning unit in the room which almost blew us out of bed when it cycled on and off (but since it was unusually hot outside, we decided the noise was a minor inconvenience). The breakfast is strictly continental, with juice, boiled eggs, bagels, fresh bread and coffee available. Overall a nice alternative to staying on highway U.S. 31. Walking distance to dining and a front row seat for the Musical Fountain.

Room Tip: There are stairs only, no elevator, so choose accordingly if you have tons of luggage.

I booked a 2 night stay at the B&B for an end of summer getaway for my husband and me. When we checked in the woman was nice - she didn't exude lots of warmth but she did ask if we'd like an upgrade since someone had booked two rooms and only needed 1. We were happy to have a balcony which was not available when I made the reservation 2 weeks prior. The woman (she did not tell us her name) showed us around. I was the one who mentioned to her that I was told there was an elevator for our luggage. Our room was charming/decorated very nicely. Very nice double whirlpool. Inn kept very clean. The women we saw the next 2 days working at the Inn seemed a bit friendlier and a bit warmer. When we checked out, I suggested they offer the area code on their sign on their counter that gave the 24 hour number for assistance since we are not from the area. The woman said you could also dial '10' in your room to reach the operator. I told her we did not know that. Someone in previous reviews mentioned a coupon book and that they offered suggestions for things to do in the area. We did not receive a coupon book (maybe because it is 'high' season?) and the woman who checked us in did not give us any information on the area other than to show us the menus they had to look at for all the local restaurants. While these tidbits may seem a bit negative, we had a wonderful time in Grand Haven and really did enjoy our stay at the Harbor House Inn. Perhaps, the woman who checked us in could 'up her game' a bit. Nice continental breakfast as others have said - personally, don't eat big breakfasts so this was fine for us. Ate at Snug Harbor and the Grill Room at the Kirby House - would recommend both - enjoyed shopping at the stores on Washington St. - rented bikes, watched Musical Fountain both nights - 1 from far away (couldn't hear the music the 1st night) and 1 at the Waterfront Stadium w/music. Once we checked in, we walked everywhere and never got into our car until we left. Would definitely go back. (tip to Inn - can use some softer pillows and some new towels too).

Room Tip: Room #23 - very nicely decorated, balcony, side view can see the lake.

I stayed with my sisters and mom, 5 of us piled into two rooms. The rooms were immaculate, the whole house was! The staff was very friendly and informative. The porch is expansive and comfortable, perfect for enjoying drinks and canepes (byo) before hitting the town. They don't serve a full breakfast but a nice continental style with home made cake and bread, yogurt and fruit, then an evening treat, too! The city was grand, bustling with lots of restaurants and awesome shopping. Of course, the beach at Lake Michigan is gorgeous and clean and ideal for families and bathing beauties like us. ;-)

Room Tip: Harbor Road is very busy but seemed to really quiet down at night. Our room was very quiet, room 1...

My sister and I stayed at the Harbor House Inn a few weeks back on the way to our annual Pentwater week vacation. Normally we stay at the Days Inn, but this year we wanted to be downtown. Fortunately for us we were able to secure a third floor front facing room for one night, as they normally rent for 2 nights on the weekend. Our room was large, and extremely well-furnished. The shower in the bathroom was life-changing (in a good way). Since we knew in advance that there was no passenger elevator, we packed accordingly for the one night in a backpack and didn't need to use the luggage elevator. There was no issue with the stairs to the third floor. The staff was helpful, friendly, took us on a tour of the Inn, and showed us which staircase was closest to our room. We enjoyed a sunset sail on the Wind Dancer Schooner and following the sail, we watched the Musical Fountain from the front porch. Breakfast the next morning was nicely laid out and more than adequate, which we enjoyed on the front porch even though it was bit chilly that morning. With any luck, we will be as fortunate next year and be able to come back to the Harbor House Inn.

My husband and I stayed at The Harbor House Inn in August 2013 for one evening and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We were in Room 25 which was very roomy, had a large bed, spa tub, fireplace, and a wrap-around private deck where we enjoyed a bottle of wine while watching the musical light & water show across the Grand River. The Inn was VERY clean, staff was extremely accommodating, and it's perfectly located to nearby restaurants, the waterfront, pier, and shopping. The continental breakfast was delicious and baked goods were homemade. The staff has thought of everything to make your stay enjoyable and comfortable. I would highly recommend The Harbor House Inn and am looking forward to a return visit.

Room Tip: Room 25 is worth the extra cost for its roominess, coziness, and wrap-around private deck.

My husband and I stayed at the Harbor House Inn for only one night on our way back home from a vacation. I wish we had planned to stay longer. Our room on the second floor had a deck furnished with 2 adorable chairs and a table with a wonderful view of the water. The immaculately clean, spacious room with a gas fireplace was welcoming and the canopy bed comfortable. However, I did not understand the frame for the canopy. It seemed to be made from rather cheap metal pipe-like material and did not fit the more substantial look of the rest of the beautiful furniture. But that was just aesthetics and did nothing to mar the great night's sleep we had. The bathroom was spotless with a jacuzzi tub and shower. We were greeted in a truly welcoming and friendly manner when we checked in and at other times when we would return from sight-seeing. The breakfast was good and plentiful. The inn is in a fabulous location enabling one to walk to downtown, to restaurants, and the water. We are hoping to return to the Harbor House Inn someday soon for a longer stay.
