Stayed with three kids and four grandparents in Captain's Cottage for 5 days, 4 nights. Cozy atmosphere, great service, excellent breakfast each morning, fresh baked snacks at night. Super clean, everything was thought of. higher price for rooms but excellent VALUE. Close to beach (1/2 mile), quiet neighborhood. Walking distance to (2 blocks) to major restaurants in town. Kid friendly but also good place for couples or older visitors alike. One of the best places we have ever stayed. Will recommend to all our friends and will come back!

Harbor House Inn is considered a B&B, but it was more like an inn where all the amenities and more were provided with quietness and relaxing atmosphere. My wife and I stayed in Room #34 for five nights. The room was very comfortable and cozy, and we enjoyed the partial view of the board walk. The Inn is located in the middle of the 2 1/2 mile board walk, so we had a chance to walk back and forth the entire board walk every morning. Though we could certainly walk to the beaches, we drove to the City Beach (next to the state beach) where the parking was free. I think you would have to pay $6 to park in the state beach parking lot, so keep driving down till you hit right before Bil-Mar restaurant. My wife loved their caramel and daily cookies in the evening. The complimentary breakfast had nice selections with tasty bread. Yummy. We sat in the wrap-around porch every morning to enjoy the sun and water. Downtown Grand Haven is two blocks away from the main drag, Washington St. We also drove up to Muskegon, which was 20 miles north on US 31. They also have a free city beach to swim. There is a corn dog stand next to Snug Harbor restaurant near the Inn. You should try it if you are there. The staff at Harbor House Inn were so friendly. The girls who cleans our room did an outstanding job. The Inn also has a great selection of DVDs, so if you ever want to watch one or bring in a DVD, there is a DVD player in each room. We loved the big bathtub and jacuzzi. If you want to work out, you could go to the Y for free as well. We loved every minute of our stay here at the Harbor House Inn and Grand Haven.

Room Tip: Our room was very nice (Room 34). if you want to choose a room with a window facing the water, you...

We liked everything about this place. The room was beautifully decorated, with a wonderful view of the Harbor. The complimentary breakfast was sumptuous, including home-baked pastries, fresh fruits, and much more, which can be enjoyed in the beautiful dining room or in the pleasant screened porch. Ideally situated, just across the street from the harbor area which is the main attraction of the town, and close to excellent walking paths, restaurants, etc.

Small trade-offs given that the building is an older structure. No passenger elevator, though there is one for your luggage. Few electrical outlets, very small closet. But these were all more than offset by the location, the service, general attention to detail, the food, and the high end nature of the place.

Nice place to stay. Easy to walk to most attractions from here. Staff is friendly and welcoming. Would not reccommend a room with jacuzzi tub though as the one in our room blew out chunks of black stuff when turned on. Room was clean and nice though.

We never knew that this inn would capture our hearts .as soon as u ring the doorbell u are greeted by a friendly innkeeper Linda who shows u around and points out the homemade snacks and coffee u can have.we stayed in room no 25 which is one of the best rooms there.it is a very flowery room with a beautiful bedspread and a wrap around deck overlooking the beach.homemade caramel candy welcomes you to this cozy room.relax and unwind in the jacuzzi tub they provide you.we borrowed some DVDs from the library downstairs which is another cozy spot to play games and read books .the breakfast was well worth it because everything was homemade and tasty.room no 25 has a guest book which guests have signed and wrote notes over the years from the 1970 s .it makes you feel that the room has a life of its own.it was an awesome stay and the staff was so friendly.i would stay there again if I had d chance

My wife and I were seeking a romantic getaway from the hustle and bustle of Chicago. It was also her birthday. We found The Harbor House through our NPR member coupon book. Harbor House honored our 2 for 1 gift certificate even though it didn't cover Saturday night. We stayed in the Cottage overlooking the Grand River. It was rather pretty even though it was March and there was snow on the ground. Our room was clean and well furnished. The fireplace was cozy, and the large two person jacuzzi was really, really nice. We watched a movie in the room, and my only beef was the TV was the size of my computer monitor.........The included breakfasts were very nice with coffee, juice, home made cinnamon bread and other baked goods, as well as cereal, hard boiled eggs and cheese, and fresh fruit. The public area was really nice, with a couple of fireplaces, a well stocked library, as well as a DVD library if you want to watch a movie in your room. Another nice perk were the coupons we were given upon checking in. These were for local restaurants and business'. We received 20% off our wonderful dinner at The Grill Room thanks to Harbor House. Four stars is a pretty high rating. I would put it in the 3.5 star rating, truthfully. The staff was wonderful and attentive. Very nice stay, overall. My value rating of 4 stars is with my two for one coupon. If it was full price of nearly $200 I am not sure it would rate so highly. Also, note that we stayed in the cottage and not in the Inn proper.

Room Tip: Make sure your cottage room faces the lake- the second room there does not.
