The pasties were awesome! You must try! We also had the Friendship soup, my daughter said, "this is the best soup! it doesn't need anything to make it better!"

“A tasty treat!”

Had wonderful moist pasties last night at Shepies! My husband is from the UP and he likes these better than any he has ever had up north.

“Not even close!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 9, 2013 via mobile

I have tried the pasties twice now hoping that when they had just opened that they were experimenting on their product and that they would get it right. Two visits and no change. These pasties are dry, thats why they offer gravy. They fall apart so unlike a true Cornish pastie you cannot pick it up and eat it while on the go The original pasties were made by cornish miners. They contained meat, swede, carrots and potatoes wrapped up in a thick pastry crust. They would wrap them up in cloth and would stay warm until lunch. These pasties at Shepies are dry have very little meat in them and are mainly carrot and potato. If you try to pick them up they will fall apart all over your clothes or end up on the floor. They leave them stewing all day in aluminum foil and the crust becomes soaked in grease. If they were sold as a meat and veg turnover it would be more accurate. If you want to eat a pastie that is also made in Michigan try an Albies pastie from the grocery store at least their pastry is more authentic and you can save about two dollars.

Thank you for your input. Shepies has always produced these pasties to be put in a bowl or on a plate, the overthick crust was intentionally done away with. This input is interesting and will be investigated for validity. Shepies is very sorry for any substandard product and would replace it without question. Always feel free to address any inconsistancy with the owners directly, It works out better for all that way.

“don't get pasties often - this was a treat”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 28, 2012

We don't get pasties often - I really liked these and thought the crust was the best I've had. Tried chicken and beef - think I liked the beef - with gravy - best. It was very warm - good pasty taste (or should I say pasty tasty) and moist even without gravy.
I agree with other reviewer - if you like pasties - get one here!! If you've never tried - this will set the bar pretty high I think...

“Try 'em, if you like 'em!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 26, 2012

As a disclaimer, what I mean is that if you like pasties you should try them here. If you do not know what a pastie is, try one to see if you like it anyway (with ketchup, please, not gravy!) but these are not traditional 'Copper Country' pasties. Which I love. And yet, these are darn good. So good in fact, that I am going back to get more. Today.

Also, be aware that this is not one of Grand Haven's fine eateries. If you are looking for ambiance, a decent wine selection and white tablecloths, move over to the west side of town, near the water's edge. If you are looking for a decent place to eat lunch, head on in! I may join you!
