We had the pleasure of staying at The Homestead for a brief 1 night stay recently. This was the perfect location for us. We had a beautiful room with a beautiful view. We are already talking about returning to send more time. And possibly having a small group of friends there as well.

Room Tip: Review their website before choosing the location/room that suits your needs. Each are of the resor...

Spectacular views...every amenity that you could ask for. Fine Dining, nature trails and killer sunsets await you.
You must dine at Nonna's...this is not a suggestion but a direct order. The resort is worth the price but make certain you get a room or condo with the lakeview. Watching the sunset over Sleeping Bear Dunes with a glass of wine in hand is how every vacation day should end.

Room Tip: get a lakeview room!

Nickandornella,

Thank you for visiting and for this wonderful review. I am thrilled you enjoyed our property. The sunsets truly are fantastic. I am also personally thrilled to hear that you enjoyed Nonna's. Our menu changes seasonally, and I do hope that you will make plans to come see us again soon. I also teach a limited number of cooking schools throughout the year.

The Homestead is a beautiful place to relax no matter the season.

I don't often give a hotel (or any business) a five-star rating, but I will break the rule for the Homestead.

Please note that this review only applies to the inn, where my family (wife and two boys ages 13 and 10) stayed for 4 nights in July. I can't speak to the condos, though I've seen mixed reviews of those.

We had a 2-bedroom, two-floor suite at the inn, with huge windows in most of the rooms overlooking Lake Michigan. The suite included a full-sized kitchen, living area and three bathrooms, as well as a small outdoor patio.

The suite was so large and spread out that it felt more like a home than a hotel room. Yes, we paid an extravagant price (around $600 a night), but this included all of the Homestead's amenities, including the wonderful outdoor pools and hot tubs (one was across the street from us), the beaches along the lake, the health club and boating. We were also close to the tennis courts, which were well maintained and never crowded, though we did have to pay a fee to use them.

We loved everything about our suite. The beds were huge and extremely comfortable. The bathrooms were roomy. The furniture was top quality, as were the three large TVs. The big windows with their memorable sunset views provided plenty of light (especially because the sun didn't set until 9:30 each night, an advantage of coming in mid-July). There were more pots and pans in this kitchen than in our kitchen at home.

We loved the feel of the resort, too. The people working there weren't the warmest, but they always seemed eager to help and certainly friendly enough. We enjoyed having the grocery store on site, and we took advantage of the health club a couple times - no complaints there.

I can't say much more about the scenery except it was as lovely as others have said in these reviews. Northern Michigan is one of my favorite places, and I love being right on the Great Lakes, so a location close to the shore was high on my list. The Homestead delivered on that and more.

If you want to splurge on a northern Michigan vacation, I can't recommend anything higher than this.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the inn if you can afford it. I get the feeling these rooms are hard to come by an...

Three friends and I stayed in the Logger's Run development. It was nice with an incredible view of the sand dunes and water. Two had never been to the area before, and they really loved it. I would recommend getting the lake view instead of forest view (you can always see trees. It's the lake that's so beautiful.) We tried to eat dinner there on Sunday night and found all the restaurants closed. One recommendation would be to keep one restaurant open every day (even during the off season) for those that are returning from touring around 7 and haven't bought groceries.

Room Tip: Choose a lake view!

I would stay here for it's location. I need to understand this property better before deciding to return or not. It is very handy to Sleeping Bear Dunes, the wine tour, fishing, golf and most outdoor activities.

Room Tip: Rooms near Lake Michigan have no air conditioning. Blue Belle rooms are for couples and in a small v...

otisokansascity,

Thank you for visiting. We hope that you will come back to explore more of our property. We certainly understand that for first time visitors it can be difficult to navigate our property successfully. We have recently added a new map and more signage to make this easier. We have also been discussing the addition of a second shuttle, we will certainly take you comments into account.

Thanks again for the visit and the review, we hope that you will come see us again soon.

This summer was our 30th year at The Homestead! Our kids grew up going to The Homestead in the summer for at least a week! During those years we stayed in many different condo's around the complex. Most of them were excellent because they were privately owned. For the last several years since our children are grown, my husband and I have stayed at the Inn. When it was first remodeled it was gorgeous, but now has fallen into disrepair. We always stay in #3 for the most part, and the last couple of years the furnishings are completely worn down. The chairs are awful, and the linens on the bed smelled musty and just plain limp. This is inexcusable for the money you pay! Yes the surroundings are gorgeous, the food is good, but the rooms at the Inn are terrible. We have traveled all over and really appreciate nice rooms, and clean, crisp sheets and bedding!
We made reservations for next year, because we love the facilitity, but now are questioning wether we want to stay there.

karyndavidsager,

First of all, thank you for visiting for so many years. We love hearing from repeat guests.

I wanted to take a moment to let you know that we are in the process of updating many of the units - including The Inn. We do hope that you will continue to visit. I know you will enjoy the upgrades that we have planned. Thank you again for your continued patronage, we look forward to serving you again very soon.

We stayed in one of the Pinnacle condos with our four kids. The condo was superb - more than enough space for all of us, very well equipped and with magnificent views. The only downside was the lack of A/C - we opened the windows but then were bothered a bit by loud neighbors coming back in late. Also a tiny bit disappointed that we couldn't use a BBQ. Those were details however. The two swimming pools were great - the smaller one by the reception is really a kids only pool, but with nice loungers for the parents and more shade. We rented some kayaks which was very easy. There is a great grocery store in Glen Arbor but the small shop on the resort is very convenient. Reception staff very helpful and friendly. Overall a lovely stay - we would have loved to stay longer!

LondonWorkingMum,

Thank you for visiting us here at The Homestead, and thank you for taking the time to write us this review. Usually, our units don't need AC as the cool breeze off the lake provides plenty of comfort, but when neighbors get noisy this can certainly be a frustration.

Thank you again for visiting, we hope that you and your family will join us again soon.
