Visited The Homestead again and love it. It is so beautiful here I don't want to leave. We ate at the pizza place on property tonight, I think it is Beppi's. The pizza was one of the best I have ever had, delicious. I visited the Amira Spa today, had a wonderful massage by Brenda. Stayed at The Inn on property, love, love, love The Homestead.

Room Tip: We stayed on the first floor of The Inn, we had a walk out patio. We also had a gorgeous view of Lak...

The Homestead and Glen Arbor in northwestern Michigan's lower peninsula has been a favorite of ours for many years. Sugar sandy beach to walk, golf available, artsy town, Cherry Republic for all kinds of cherry products, cool nights with warm days...all in the Leelanau Peninsula of Michigan. Gorgeous! Tip: the rates drop considerably the day after Labor Day.

Traveled to glen arbor on Saturday and stayed at the homestead resort. This is a gorgeous property! Flowers, streams, waterfalls and small ponds galore! Rooms were very nice and clean, the people that work there were very friendly and helpful. Couldn't ask for anything better. The sleeping dunes national seashore is indeed one of the most beautiful places in America ! Can't wait to go back!

I really love the spa at The Homestead, the staff is amazing and the views of Lake Michigan are unbelievable. The treatments are very good and the prices are comparable to any resort in the US.

What I don't love is that the pool area (spa quiet area) is also part of some membership for home owners. The quiet you expect at a spa before your appointment is disappointing when chatty members are drinking wine by the pool. I think to have a true spa experience you need the entire area to be for spa guests only or make it clear the quiet rules to the members.

We have vacationed along many towns on the Lake Michigan side, and decided to try the Homestead for the week of Aug. 18-22. We stayed at Fiddlers Pond and paid extra for a room with a deck (lower). Had to move rooms because first deck had a tree growing out of the center and a hole where a stump was removed (have children). It was small, dark and not especially clean. Besides the fact that it is quite small, sleep was almost non-existent because of the noises. The air conditioner went on and off constantly and you could hear everything going on in the rooms above and next to you-so you couldn't go to sleep until the room above you called it a night. (Poorly built/insulated)

As for services, I would give it 2 stars. Everything was understaffed for a Sold Out week. Restaurants would advertise family night on the day they were closed They had only 1 person working in the Country Store where they were running the coffee bar, ice cream stand, specialty foods and checking out customers. It would take 15 minutes to buy a bottled water. The food offered at the restaurants were very limited and very basic (right up there with fast food).

The most annoying part was the visit to the pool/beach. From Fiddlers Pond it was quite a distance. ONE shuttle ran every 1/2 hour and did not take floats. You had to take your car, park in the designated lot and wait for a golf cart to take (6) at a time to the pool - oh and this cart also took the tubers for the lazy river (or you could drag your kids, beach bag, etc. down a 8-10 minute path to the pool from the lot) - which by the way had a disgusting odor for a few days. The pool bar menu was mediocre and the beach patio bar was not open except for one night.

Their explanation - we are at the end of the season, our activity schedule did not get updated, etc. If you are sold out - have the place staffed for it! Not overly friendly or helpful. Would have checked out early - but they do not refund your money. Now I know why!

On the positive side for a younger family: Close to dunes, 2 average pools and Mountaintop Campfire Songs & Smores. NO rush to go back again.

Room Tip: Only book a couple nights to see if this is the right place for you because they will not refund you...

MichiganMomGP,

Thank you for coming to visit us. I am sorry to hear that your stay was not a better one.

We have been understaffed in some facilities this year, and we know that has been a frustration for our guests and has affected their experiences. We apologize for this, and we are certainly aware of the issue and we are working to correct it. We certainly understand that the level of service you experienced was not up to your standards, and I assure you they did not meet ours either.

We hope that you will choose to stay with us again so that we may more adequately serve you and your family.

Best,

Our family of 5 stayed here for 3 nights in August. It is a lovely resort with a wide variety of choices of lodging. After reading several of the recent reviews, I was apprehensive prior to our stay. However, the lodging option that we chose and the staff that we encountered left us with nothing but positive memories. We stayed at Fiddler's Pond. The room was really nicely recently updated. Spacious enough for our family with a nice sized bathroom. New flat screen TV that enabled us to play movies off of the laptop. My only complaint was that all 2nd floor rooms had a standing room only balcony versus the 1st floor rooms had a full size patio with two chairs. As previous reviews had stated, the dining choices on property were not satisfactory. Therefore, we did eat all meal off property. The grounds were beautiful. Exceptionally designed throughout the entire Fiddler's Pond area. Although we did not swim at all, the pools by the Reception area and the pool by the lake both looked very inviting. We did enjoy the National Dunes Park very much. The dune climb was fun and the sunsets were beautiful. If we were to return to this area, we would certainly return to this resort and definately choose Fiddler's Pond again.

Room Tip: Choose 1st floor room so that you have an outdoor sitting area.

loveisbliss,

Thank you for visiting, and for the great review.

We are thrilled you enjoyed your stay, and the new TVs! I am disappointed to hear that the food and beverage offerings were not what you expected. That said, we appreciate the feedback, as we are always looking to improve. I hope on your next visit you will try Nonna's for dinner!

Thanks again, we look forward to serving you again soon!

We lucked out with great warm weather Aug 17-24. The grounds of the resort are amazing and the pools and beach club were beautiful. We stayed in South Village 6 and for the most part the condo was great. Yes, there were a few things here and there but we thought the amenities of the resort more than made up for it. No A/C though so our room was really warm. I saw the forecast ahead of time and took a fan. The river tubing was great fun. You rent tubes for $5 each at the beach club and they take you by golf cart to a spot up the river and you relax in your tube all the way to the Lake, We felt the staff was very friendly and the housekeeper regularly talked to my 8 year old son and said she wanted to make him happy, "you're on vacation!" she said. Our room had a loft and my son was a little afraid of going up and down the ladder the first few days so if you have children any younger than that it is kind of scary. I worried about him getting up and having to go to the bathroom at night. Glen Arbor itself is such a cute town with so much to do like kayaking the Crystal River, bike trail to the Dune Climb, eating at Boonedocks and Art's Tavern. Great shops too that are unique. Not junky tourist shops. We are planning a return trip for the same week next year at the Homestead!
