This is an annual thing for our family to do as we enjoy the Cherry Fest in July. We try to pick a day that will be cooler and maybe cloudy so it's easier to handle the 45-50 minute walk up/down the dunes. People are always pleasant as you pass them either way, because they're in the same boat as you are. BRING PLENTY OF WATER--FROZEN WATER BOTTLES will melt by the return trip!!! Sand/surf socks are great to wear, but sneakers will weigh you down and get filled with sand, so you'll have to keep taking them on/off!! Don't forget sunscreen sunglasses and hats. When you complete the journey to the lake you'll be rewarded with a COOL-COLD dip in Lake Michigan, to help you recover for the return trip. We always treat ourselves to a frozen ice cream from their machine after we get back. CLEAN RESTROOMS EVERY TIME WE'VE BEEN THERE! Friendly staff at entry. $10 (week-long) or you can buy an annual. ENJOY!
Well worth the few hours you'll spend there--but be smart: LEAVE YOUR PETS AT HOME!!!!

Interesting to see but not all that it's cracked up to be. Scenic drive, lots of trails, but no specific or exciting activities to participate in except for exerting yourself by hiking up a sand dune called the climb. I've seen bigger sand dunes elsewhere...

What a beautiful breath taking place to visit! Be sure to check out the Junior Ranger program if you are traveling with kids!

These trails are so beautiful, with lake, dunes, forest, wildlife. The best. Whether biking or hiking, there is no more peaceful and beautiful place to recharge and get out in nature.

Definitely worth a visit. We rode bikes, the trail is very nice. It will be even better when the full trail is completed.
