“Fantastic Hotel & Spa”
Reviewed January 25, 2013

I stayed here while on a business trip in January 2013. I stayed in Room 1 in the Manor House and it was a wonderful room. I had full use of the spa as part of my stay and was lucky to have sole use as it was not busy - the Spa really was world class. There isn't a swimming pool (only a very large Hydrotherapy pool) or gym . I ate in the Grill on the Hill restaurant and felt the food was almost Michelin star quality, the starter and dessert in particular.

Breakfast was in Fred's and was very nice.

10 out of 10 for this hotel

Room Tip: Room 1 in the Manor house was very good

Had a couple of nights here - in the bridal suite - it was beautiful. Decor was ivory and gold, good quality furniture, four poster bed, large well equipped modern bathroom. Meet and greet was pleasant and professional. Prompt and friendly attention in the bar areas. Excellent dinners both evenings in the Grill on the Hill. Front of house and all her staff were very good. The chef has some brilliant ideas and it seems his locally sourced meat/game/fish is very popular. We certainly enjoyed the fish and Bowland lamb. All beautifully cooked and presented. Only quibble would be breakfast - young and willing staff, very friendly but buffet could certainly be improved. Otherwise, we were very happy with the whole break.

We live local and I was trying to find somewhere "grown-up" for afternoon tea for my daughters birthday with other family members. What a treat - can't believe this has been just around the corner from us for so long. We were taken through to the conservatory and the decor really impressed. We ordered coffees and selections of cakes - my mums scones had been freshly baked, still warm, a selection of three different types. My daughter had a trio of cake that were really scrummy and we were really treated well by the staff. Can't wait to go back!
The new spa looked fab too!!

I visited the main restaurant here with my girlfriend and her parents for her birthday and it was an amazing night. Excellent choice of drinks, a wonderful meal and great service. Nothing negative to say about this place at all except the hangover I woke up with after sampling one too many of the cocktails!

Dined at Mr Fred's for lunch following a recommend, having not visited Stanley House before. Totally impressed with the service and surroundings and the food was superb, especially the desserts. Well worth a visit.

Having left the hustle & bustle of Hong Kong, to find myself in the fabulous surroundings of Stanley House and the serene ambience of the Spa ! Wow ! Unbelievably relaxing and the best facial I have ever had ! The Cure...aptly named was sensational and fulfilled it's promise. My skin lost it's jet lagged appearance and was transformed staying refreshed and luminous for the rest of my 3 week trip. Loved it.....definitely will be back and can't wait for another ILA aromatic bathing ritual......heaven on earth.....

My partner and I had a really relaxing time here. We needed a good get-away after a difficult Christmas at home and got the space and relaxation we needed. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Always a good sign! The new Woodlands section of the hotel was warm, clean and newly decorated. All very spacious, airy and contemporary. Great views from all the rooms over the countryside. Large flat screen tv which came out on arm to face either the sofa or the bed. the bed was soooo comfortable. Wifi was free and was strong everywhere we were. Everything was clean and worked. We got a good deal from travelZoo which included dinner, bed and breakfast for two BUT it also included use of the spa which is in the same new building. The thermal baths (you need to book in advance as they limit numbers which is good) were fabulous. Best I have been in. Big glass windows overlooking the countryside, a small pool with bubbles and underwater sprays and good lighting. Four steam rooms/ saunas and a great array of showers which were great fun. We also booked in for a paid treatment the next day. I enjoyed a body scrub massage which was fabulous. The spa staff were also very helpful and appeared to be well trained. The dinner at Mr Fred's was fine though not brilliant. But we thought that perhaps some dishes are better than others. The Grill Restaurant is meant to be excellent but we didn't try that as it was not part of the deal. Good breakfast. Lots of choice. There appeared to be paths to walk in the area but the weather was not enticing. We came away feeling so much better than when we arrived. I think this is a place which will become very popular now that it has had a makeover. We will definitely be going back.

Room Tip: I did not see the old part but rooms on the first floor of the new Woodlands building have great vie...

We are so happy that you found us, thanks to the Travelzoo offer that we did and we hope that you will indeed be back again soon to visit and to enjoy the bedrooms and spa. It was great that you managed to stay on a midweek night where the thermal bathing suite was inclusive for you to use also, it is amazing. Hopefully you can experience the Grill on the Hill restaurant next time you come too.
