“Older Property, But Quite Good”
Reviewed May 1, 2014

Stayed one night while business traveling. Friendly staff. Rooms are dated, but bathrooms appear to have been updated. Room was very clean. Hallways had a minor odor but it was just odd, not necessarily unpleasant, Facility was very quiet at night.

Rooms are still using metal keys instead of key cards. No in-room fridge. It would be possible with a little gymnastic skill to move from one room balcony to another. Door to balcony has only a simple push-in the handle lock. Balcony door should have a dead bolt.

Dining room was excellent with a great view of the bay.

Room rate was reasonable. This is good basic motel. Don't expect contemporary furnishings and you won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: Facility is located right on the lake shore. If possible get a room on the lake side. You'll...

We stayed here for 2 nights with the Holland Christian Robotics Team. Had no idea what to expect when we arrived but were happily pleased. Hotel is older but rooms are spacious and clean! Michelle at the front desk was amazing! THANKS for all your help. The staff is friendly and helpful. Do not hesitate to stay here if you are in the Gladstone/Escanaba area.

....we found a keeper!
We travel through the UP frequently but this is the first time we stayed in the Gladstone/Escanaba area. The Terrace Bay Inn is between Gladstone and Escanaba on a bay. It's been around a while - a history of the property is available in the office area - but it has been well maintained. The rooms are roomy, comfortable and clean. The staff is small town friendly. (that means - sincere.) Our dinner was very good and the prices seemed reasonable. Our room faced the bay and we enjoyed watching a family of swans and another of sandhill cranes from our balcony. There is a boardwalk that runs between the inn and the shore of the bay - not long - but a nice quiet walk. Breakfast in a motel is - breakfast. It was just what we needed. And, as we started our trip south, my husband said - "I think we should go back there again." So - it's a winner! And we will be back.

Room Tip: Stay on the bay side. I don't think there is much street noise - but "street side" is...

My husband and I snuck away for 5 days and spent one of them in this extraordinary place. We ate, swam and enjoyed ourselves immensely. While eating an Eagles caught a fish out in the bay in front of us and then sunrise the next morning was worth getting up for. The pool was the just right temp and the hot tub too hot. The food is spectacular and well priced.

Room Tip: ask for bayside for the sunrise

We stayed overnight here after a wedding reception that was in the hotel's ballroom.

It's a little old looking but it's VERY roomy with really comfortable pillows and a large bathroom. Our room had a nice flat screen tv that pulled out to be a little closer. The only thing I would say that wasn't comfortable was the bed. It was a little hard for my liking but I still slept very well.

The room was very clean and the staff was about average and a friendliness scale.

Room Tip: Our room was road side but still had a little balcony overlooking the area that was still pretty.

We stayed one night while driving through the UP. The highlights have to be the view and the extra friendly and helpful staff. The young man at the desk when we arrived was very personable. The room was clean and comfortable with a nice flat screen TV. We ordered pizza from our room, which was very good. A request for an additional towel was met within minutes. Breakfast was adequate with waffle makers, french toast, cereal, muffins, etc. We'd stay again.

Stayed here for one night with my spouse in a king fireplace suite, facing the bay. It was a very clean, nicely updated suite. It looks like they took 2 original motel rooms, and made a 2 room suite from them. One room is the living room/kitchen with flat screen tv, couch, nice comfy chair, 2 end tables and coffee table. The kitchen area with a bar counter with 2 nice stools. There is an under-counter fridge and full size microwave plus sink in the kitchen area. The 2nd room is the large size bedroom, with a king bed, end table, nice wood framed fireplace in the corner (it is a separate unit but looks nice), flat screen tv, and large dresser. The bathroom is nicely updated also with a decent size counter with one sink and a walk in shower.

Pros: Newly updated, clean, nice carpet, comfy bed and sheets, comfy pillows, spacious, nice kitchen and counter area, great view of the bay! New wall a/c units in both rooms. There are 2 closets, one in living room and one in bedroom.

Cons: The only con is that there should be a second end table and lamp in the bedroom. There was only one end table with one lamp! No overhead lighting. So it was kind of dark in there. Also, there needs to be a second lamp in the living area. There is only one lamp next to the couch. There needs to be another lamp next to the really nice chair in there. Maybe a floor lamp next to the chair for reading.

Make sure you ask for one of the newer suites. Not all have fireplaces, and some do not face the water, but I am sure they are all similar and very nice.

We also ate dinner here. I will critique that under the restaurant section. It was very good.

Overall, I would definitely recommend staying here in one of the suites.
