“Pretty Good - Nothing Special”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 17, 2013

My son and I are up north for the week to ski/snowboard, so we thought we would try this place.

Initial impression was that it is not a good idea to have all of your patrons seat themselves during a very busy service time. Saw many people walking around the place looking for a seat and a few parties just walked out.

I had the ribs. Pretty good, meaty, tender and lots of sauce. It comes with two sides. I had mac n cheese (cold) and fries (cold and hard). My son had the brisket. The brisket was really good, but they smothered it with too many onions (I guess he could have asked for no onions). He had the garlic mashed potatoes (really good) and mac n cheese (he said his was not cold). For dessert, he had the brownie with ice cream and hershey syrup and whipped cream. The brownie could have been warmer and no whipped cream.

Here is the odd part: Our waitress never removed our finished plates. She got me a second pop, took the dessert order, brought the dessert, brought the bill and never took our empty plates that we specifically moved to the outside of the table so she would take them....weird.

Glad we went - probably won't go back next time we are in town.

“OK for Gaylord”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2013

Looking for a decent restaurant in Gaylord that has good food? This isn't it. I got fried fish -- not on Friday. Came in a basket. Top of the fish was a somewhat crunchy, bottom batter was soggy. That pretty much ruins fried fish for me. Atmosphere was the typical, old-style restaurant you see in this part of the state. That's fine with me, but the vinyl bench seats needed padding badly -- very uncomfortable. Also not the cleanest-looking place. Nonetheless, it was busy. I'm guessing that has more to do with the lack of restaurants in Gaylord than anything else.

“Nuthin' special”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 11, 2013

Nothing horrible about this place, but nothing really good, either. Basic bar food. We asked for blue cheese dressing on our not-so-fresh salad and received something else. When we asked for blue cheese dressing again, the waitress said "That IS our blue cheese dressing. It's our own recipe." Problem is, it didn't have any blue cheese in it. Whatever. The food gets 2 stars. The third star is for friendly staff. They do try.
