We had picked the Frankfort/Elberta area for our October wedding just by looking online only. I had visited twice before the wedding and stayed at Harbor Lights each time. The location is perfect, right on the beach and right in town also. There are several different types of rooms so you should call to see which would best accommodate your needs(note what they call a motel room is really just a basic hotel room). all of which are equipped with a fridge and microwave. Some of the units have full kitchens you just need to ask what type of rooms those are. We had about 100 people come up for the wedding and everyone was extremely pleased with Harbor Lights and their staff and the town of Frankfort. I would pick this place over a chain hotel any day!! It's a great place, we had a wonderful wedding weekend, we will definitely return!!

Our trip was a hastily planned couples get away. After finding all resorts in Traverse City fully booked, it stumbled on this Harbor Lights Resort in a Google search. We booked a deluxe room with jacuzzi and fire place, with lake view. When we checked in and got directions to our room, I thought darn, I'm not getting a beach view! Actually I was pleasantly surprised, not only did we have a beautiful view, we got a double fireplace (opens to living room and bedroom), we also got a full kitchen...dishes, microwave, dishwasher, wine glasses, wine opener...everything but food, sheesh, even an ice maker! What a fabulous room! While here in the winter the town is pretty sleepy, so don't expect much more than a few restaurants close by. But...Traverse City is only 25 minutes drive away, so you can go hog wild shopping as we did. Basically, if you stay here, you get more than the folks staying in Traverse City get paying over a grand, and you will be much much lower cost here. Seriously, this is a quarter million dollar condo we had for the weekend and paid peanuts to have it. While you're here don't miss the Bayview Grille in Frankfort for breakfast, it's a quaint little restaurant with amazing food, they even make their own jam. The Pure Michigan omelet is AMAZING. If you do go to Traverse City, you will also love a short trip to the end of the peninsula to see the Old Mission light house...might as well stop at the peninsular grill for Apple Cider Ribs while you're there.

Room Tip: We loved room 413, great view!

I stayed at Harbor Lights every weekend in Oct. 2013. From Indiana, its only 3 hours. The indoor pool and large hot tub were perfect, windows all around you can see waves on Lake Michigan while you are swimming, Cool. The grounds and rooms are impeccable and personnel very helpful and friendly. The get it-right ! Frankfort had a film festival one weekend in an old restored large movie house. Stormcloud brewpub right next door,,,,darn:) Fushion Asian dining across street, Smoked fish and fish frys in several places, wine tasting...all within 3 blocks of Harbor Lights. Also a paved path around Betsie bay that was a great daily morning walk, The trial connects in Elberta to long paved bike trail, Elberta has their own long pier (Frankforts pier is 100 yds from Harbor lights) and one can drive jeep right down along sand on beach of Lake Michigan,
Basically, Harbor Lights is priced great, perfectly kept accomodations and tons of varied events to have fun (this was Oct)just think of July)! I will go back with my bike and ride along Betsie River to Behula, MI and back

My husband and I decided to randomly book a hotel near traverse city. Frankfort is a ways away, but it's nicely tucked away as well. Harbor LIghts is on the water which is beautiful. We stayed in a first floor luxury room which was extremely spacious. It was a tiny apartment! The bathroom and kitchen were perfectly clean. The bed room was cute and has dimmer switches. The in room Jacuzzi tub was the perfect touch.

We ended up parking the car once we got there and not using it again until we left. We could walk anywhere downtown from Harbor Lights which was my favorite part.

I look forward to returning.

On this trip my wife and I were staying in mostly "Choice Hotels" and I kinda needed a change. Well we couldn't have been more pleased. (Take in mind that we were here in the off season, which can make all the difference in the world.) But I must say that the location is outstanding and the little town is very nice. You can see that the room is a kinda inexpensive remodel but is was clean and comfy. They seem to have a problem with nats, as they had a cup of cider to catch them in the bathroom. Never saw that before... and I think the cider may have been attracting them. Even with those Nats, I would most certainly come back again. I thought the people were very nice and helpful and the room was very clean otherwise. Oh and the sunset picture of the lighthouse wound up being the cover shot for my Lighthouse calendar. So make sure you see the nice sunset over the lake right in front of the resort. You can also make a romantic fire in the fire pits on the beach as well.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to write a positive review about our property. One thing I wanted to clarify was the bug issue. Being in the fruit growing region of northwest Michigan (apples and cherries primarily), every so often during the month of September, we are faced with a little pest called the fruit fly. They are very tiny (resembling a gnat), and are really nothing more than a nuisance, but infiltrate everywhere...homes, restaurants, motels, etc. We have chosen to use an organic method of apple cider vinegar with a little dish soap to attract and catch them, rather than using pesticides. So hopefully that didn't detract too much from your experience. Hopefully you will find an opportunity to return and explore more of what this beautiful area has to offer. Thank you again. Sincerely, Steve Campbell - owner, Harbor Lights Resort on Lake Michigan.

This lakefront property is literally a two minute walk to main street. The staff was pleasant, the condo was nicely decorated and very clean. Again the location was amazing! Each morning we walked out on the pier and then tried a different bakery for great breakfast sandwiches. We traveled to Sleeping Bear dunes, Leelanau State Park, Point Betsie Lighthouse and even found an organic winery making awesome hard ciders in Northport, MI. You will not be disappointed.
Thank you Harbor Lights team!

Room Tip: No elevator for the upper stories but we liked the exercise. Nice views from the balcony.
