“Crossroads Village & Huckleberry Railroad”
Reviewed August 22, 2013

We travelled from St. Clair Shores, Michigan to the Crossroads Village andf Huckleberry Railroad. It took about an hour. It is near Flint. Our 8-year old twin grandchildren loved the train ride and the comments and jokes the conductor told. The train is old , but refurbished and in good condition. It is a 40 minute ride. The train and town are reminiscent of old cowboy movies, so it is enjoyed by many adults. The village consists of about 8 old buildings, three of which sell items and/or food. The bank and barber shop are for viewing and are good for teaching some history. The trip is a nice short getaway that you can pace yourself. We did attend the "Magic Show" and found the kids loved and participated in. Lots of learning chances.

“Step Back Into Time”
Reviewed July 30, 2013

While there are larger village recreations Crossroads Village truly gives the relaxed atmosphere that our grandparents would have experienced living in small town America. You can stroll through town with its general store, and opera house getting the feel of how people actually lived in the 1800's, but there is more to Crossroads Village the Huckleberry Railroad gives you an overview of the village and if you're lucky you might even get to ride in the caboose. The railroad isn't the only opportunity for a ride, Crossroads has a great antique carrousel, but my personal favorite is the paddle wheel boat that will take you along the banks of Mott Lake. Try the boat on a warm summer evening for a special treat.
Crossroads Village also has a wonderful Christmas celebration with twinkling lights and often shows at the opera house. The village offers something for everyone.

“Better Every Year!”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

They add more and more of interest every year! I think it's a rare gem compared to other such places. Do to lack of support or interest, so many others have only a couple buildings and a few reenactment weekends. Crossroads isn't like those. Live music, performances... you name it! (just check the schedule) This is like a living history all the time. They do have special events so check their calendar to plan your visit!
Wear comfortable shoes as you will do a lot of walking! Don't forget your wagon for little ones, water bottles and pack a picnic! There is food and drinks available. Be sure to ride the train AND the riverboat! (Also don't miss a ride on the 1912 carousel and matching Ferris Wheel for a few $s!) It is marvelous at Christmas with it's millions of lights, live music and Santa in the village. There are also free drive-thru of lights and decorations.

“Go Back in Time”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

This is a great place to teach kids about life back in the 1800's. There are too many learning opportunities to list. I will say that the train ride is a highlight of the trip. The engineers are so friendly and make it fun! I live that it is a working village. This is a jewel in Genesee County Michigan!
