“Destination Dining Par Excellence”
Reviewed August 24, 2014

Fennville is not really near much, it's a drive from most places and drive people will for the food, and warm atmosphere, of this hopping restaurant. As you drive through farm land for 30 minutes...look at that dark earth, the food you will eat is grown in this beautiful soil. Farm to table, again, in Michigan is thriving and done well. Filled with lively locals and Lake Michigan vacationees the mixture of diners is just like the food; a dash of humble, a dash of sophisticated, to create an intriguing menu and dining style. Curated wooden boards with starters and gorgeous pizzas flood by the table, pigs are beloved here and their bounty comes in all forms. Dishes are plentiful with rich flavors, pickled garden items add a sharp contrast of flavors. The one draw back is the crowd. Yes, it really is a popular destination. There are no reservations for small groups. So, advice: either be there at 5:00 when they open and you are golden, but this can be hard to arrange on beach days when kids linger, or, arrive after the 6:30 crush, and show up around 8:00 and you should be ok, in terms of a wait.
Oh, yes, don't forget to check what fresh bread is available to purchase for take home....wonderful savory and sweet selections. You will thank yourself for your smart decision the next day.

“Wow.”
Reviewed August 23, 2014

Get ready for an effusive positive review. Wow. Can't believe this place is in Fennville. I am mad at myself that it took 3 years living in Western MI to visit here....what was I thinking? Demonstrates that you don't have to go to the Big Cities to find amazing dishes. Among the best meals I have had in the Midwest, and definitely the best in Michigan. This includes you, Chi-town and Minneapolis. You know I love you both but come on...great execution in a no-frills environment. It is the kind of place chefs probably go to and are upset they can't make a pork chop or vegetable side dishes this good.
I read the other reviews about service and ours was so positive that I wanted to mention service in particular. Our server was a knowledgable foodie and her enthusiasm about the menu came through. She did not steer us in a direction but did a great job highlighting the favorites and where the product came from (most product from less than 50 miles away).
We shared the aged cheddar pierogies as a 1st course, nom nom. Haven't had them in a long time but they were so good. I could have had this as a main course and it would have been plenty. 2nd course, hangar steak with smoked blue cheese...tender as can be and lovely with the ramp mustard. Side dish was Fried Brussels sprouts with balsamic vinegar. Just eat it. Wow. It did not have an overly fried taste and the balsamic vinegar with the char of the Brussels sprouts were so good together....My Hubs' pork chop was the best we ever had...so soft and tasty with the vinegar-based BBQ sauce..we have eaten many a pig, and we couldn't believe how good it was. Collard greens, yum. Mac & cheese, yum. 3rd course, s'mores dessert. Be warned it is big enough for 6 people to have dessert, and we were told the chocolate cake was also a similar size. For the s'mores....a soft spice cake on the bottom with toasted housemade marshmallow on the top, served with salted caramel and milk chocolate pudding on the side. Honestly, pudding was tasty but superfluous for this dessert. Pudding could have been its own dessert.
As for the bread, well, we took 3 loaves home...sote seedy, rustic country French, and sote bacon bread. Can't wait to come back in the fall when they turn over the menu. Picked up a gift certificate on the way out as a gift for another couple and hope they love it as much as we did. Hope the chef opens a place in Grand Rapids so we can eat here more often! But if he goes to Chicago we would trek to try it.
Final note. Can't believe the value for this quality...$120 for 3 courses (for 2 people), plus we each had 2 drinks... that includes the 3 loaves we took home!

“Locally sourced scrumptious food”
Reviewed August 17, 2014

We arrived early since we were warned about the popularity of this place. So, we opted for a very early dinner. It was everything we'd heard. The staff is friendly and attentive without being intrusive. I had the pressed chicken - yummy and moist. We had a side of fries and brussel sprouts (nicely done). Desert was good, nothing outstanding, but fresh. The bread which they make there was fresh and very good. We should have known as we'd seen it sold at a couple of shops. Would recommend and will return when in the area.
