What an incredible experience. My husband and I came here with my parents and our 2 month old. First of all, a highchair was flipped upside down to place her car seat on. Our waitress recommended some fantastic drinks and wine. And the food was delicious. Everything from the appetizers (pirogies yummm!) and soup, to the main course (delicious steak and the brussel sprouts were amazing!) and desert ( try the smore, you will not regret it) were perfection. Great food, nice ambience, and wonderful staff. We loved this restaurant and would highly recommend it!

We live 45 minutes from this newer establishment and have heard great things. I want to tell you that the recommendation we had fulfilled all our expectations! Heather C, an incredibly nice and talented bartender greeted my wife, dad and stepmom w genuine interest and made a few great recommendations on some of their well known and locally sold artisan breads. Heather was well versed in the Michigan themed ciders and craft beers and she also made us some great elixirs from the special drinks menu....we tried some bacon cheese dip, pork bellies + pierogies and another round of fantastic cocktails. We were then seated with out a rush and made our way to our table where our waiter BigJohn made us feel right at home and gave us some info about the restaurant and menu. We had a 22oz Steak and Egg, Scallops, Bone in Pork-chop and the Hanger Steak...all four of us were impressed w the quality and presentation not to mention the portions! This place is flat out great, a well oiled machine w the great feel of fine "farm to fork" dining but w that small town feel that we really appreciated! Thanks Heather and BigJohn!....we'll be back and will also spread the word about our experience and that it's well worth the drive from the 'Zoo.

PS....the Smore dessert is ridiculous....another great recommendation from Heather who checked in on us periodically throughout our visit!

Walked in on a Saturday about 8:30 p.m. on the recommendation of a friend/restaurant owner "back home" and was happy/sad to see the place so hopping that an hour wait was predicted by the charming hostess. Contrary to other reviews, there seemed to be a concerted effort to turn tables and get folks seated ASAP... the bar was full, so we appreciated that a cocktail server appeared quickly in the waiting area to take orders. We ordered specialty drinks (with on exception), and were pleasantly surprised by the quality and inventiveness. Our "hour wait" ended up being about 35 minutes. Our server was personable, efficient, able to answer our many questions[ regarding menu items. Our party of four split the confit chicken wings with ghost pepper sorbetto (do NOT miss this!) and the pierogis, and had the hangar steak (2), caviitelli, and pork as entrées. Literally,we ALL had that, as it was impossible not to share. Too stuffed to try dessert, so can't comment further on that, but top to bottom, this was the best dining experience we have had in over ten years of dining in the area. We have paid more for less delicious food and less enjoyable atmosphere in a number of Saugatuck/Douglas establishments. Eating here kind of felt like winning a prize:-) Go.

Salt of the Earth is a local sourced restaurant that offers a seasonal variety of food. The menu is fairly small and basic and the dishes are just a bit on the pretentious side. The opinion of the food at our table of 6 was mixed, some of the food was excellent, some just so-so, with some of the food being just a bit underwhelming. The service was average, The "slowness" may be a bit intentional to allow a bit of "socializing" over the meal- this seems to be the case in these sort of restaurants, but for sure they are not as interested in turning tables.
Overall the meal was acceptable with some highlights, as long as you know what you are actually getting into- a local sourced, somewhat eclectic meal.

This is our third visit. The food was wonderful as always, but service was sooo slooow. It's been 45 minutes since we last saw the server return with the check or even to enter the outdoor seating area. I'm seriously considering walking off.
