We recently had a couple of meals at the new AppleWood Eatery in downtown Escanaba Michigan. We had dinner one evening, and a brunch buffet on Sunday afternoon, and both were terrific. The owners there were very accommodating to us in consideration of our daughter who requires a gluten-free diet. Further, they are happy to tailor things right down to your particular taste, e.g. just how sweet you may care to have your chai latte ! Just very pleasant folks working to satisfy you in every way. We are not coffee drinkers but I have been told that their coffees are fantastic and varied.
Of special note (well, there are actually many highlights) is the awesome seafood chowder soup, as well as several other special soups prepared fresh daily...the homemade and very special breads and special butter...the special price fixe weekend dinners offered at a VERY reasonable price which will keep us coming back, and on and on! We enjoyed the brunch buffet- there were not a LOT of items (they plan to add more as they just opened recently) but the items offered were fresh and tasty- sort of breakfast and lunch combined.
This is the space where Cake Sera Sera use to be downtown. They have a wonderful exposed brick wall in there with sort of the old fashioned checkered floor tile (a nice touch), and an old tin plate ceiling, painted. They had "our kind of music" playing...soft jazz to relax to...nice. Again, this is a great place for Escanaba...and downtown. Upscale but not up-priced. There is a board outside on the sidewalk with daily specials advertised and they have dressed up their front with baskets of flowers, and a sidewalk table- shows us that they sweat the details and that this place is indeed special. Heartily recommended !
