Our group of friends flew into Empire, and Paul from the motel was nice enough to pick us up. The stay at maple lane was fantastic!!! While the rooms are not luxurious, they are clean, the shower was great, and the kitchenette allowed us to save some cash. What I find really great about this motel are the freebies. Kayak and canoe rentals are FREE... a practice you will find at very few places. Also, a small fire ring is on property with wood supplied. Along with this, there is also a sand volleyball court, horseshoes, and a spectacular lake to swim in. Off property, the dunes are very close by. Great people, great value, and gorgeous location. Our one regret is having only one day at the Maple Lane. WE WILL BE BACK!!!

I took my family of four here so we could spend some time exploring the Sleeping Bear sand dunes. It was an ok motel. The continental breakfast consisted of coffee and small donuts. The room looked much larger on the internet. We got a kitchenette with a full size bed, a twin day bed that had another pull-out trundle underneath. When you pulled out the trundle, the room was so tight that all 3 beds were basically lined up next to one another. Underneath the beds was more dust, dirt, and debris than I care to mention. The bathroom was ok, but could use a paint job. It was nice that the kitchenette came with all of the pots, pans, and dishes you would need. The motel's "beach" is about a block or two away and consists of about 25 ft of hard, course, packed sand at a dock in between two private residences.

This motel is a great place to rest between hiking and exploring, but I wouldn't spend a considerable amount of time relaxing in the room.

Stayed here while attending a wedding at Homestead. This was a cheaper option for our family.

We rented out the carriage house and also had two regular rooms. Loved having the fridge, stove, etc- expecially with kids around. Our room (Carriage house) had one bedroom, queen bed with two bunk beds. In the living room was a couch, trundle bed.

We also enjoyed the Gathering room just outside the carriage house. We also used the grills and fire pit. There was alot of outdoor space, volleyball area and kids play area. Short walk down to Glen Lake. We were able to use the kayaks and rowboats for free. Real shallow waters, crystal clear lake.

We would stay here again.

We stayed here for a family get together and had 4 rooms. Everyone loved the place. The rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable, and the staff was friendly. They have a nice little beach area a short walk from the motel, a sand volleyball court and enough extra space so you can play outdoor games. The fire pit at night was nice. You can't beat the location - a 5 minute drive to the dunes and a short drive to Glen Arbor. As far as the price, it was an excellent value given the price of lodging in the area. As far as the breakfast, it's not much, but they are up front in letting you know it is pretty light. In short, if you want a luxery resort, this is not your place. But if you want a nice place at a decent price, this is it.

Really pretty area. Rooms look like they have not been updated since 1970. That would not be a problem really. When you go "up north" you don't expect the Ritz. But the price was ridiculously high. The shower was horrible. The entire bathroom was flooded by the time we finished showering. We were not given coffee to replace what we used the first day. The trash was not emptied. Perhaps they feel they do not need to offer good service because there are so few choices in the area. It is truly a shame because this place used to be very special. NO more. Sadly, I could never recommend staying here.

So cozy and close to Sleepy Bear Dunes National Park & Lake! Great Staff, beautiful and well kept landscape. Excellent B&B place! A Must if your in the Northern Michigan location... so much to do and see in small towns, back with nature too. Will be back!

We found the resort to be very clean and orderly. The rooms were small but adequate. The grounds were well maintained. The beach area was was a short walk from the motel and very nicely maintained. We had 4 children under the age of 6 with us and found not being directly on the beach was an advantage. The play area for the children was nicely located behind the motel.
