We did the dune climb it was fun. Bring water :)

We also camped at DH Day campground. Very rustic. Poison ivy is plentiful. The sunrise there is gorgeous. A short walk to the beach. Be careful though, plenty of small rocks all over the beach.

My favorite part was the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive. Check it out! :)

Our 28 year old son took us to the dunes and of course we climbed one of the largest ones. It was great though and we had a fabulous walk along the shore of Lake Michigan. Would return again. The drive from Traverse City was nice and enjoyed driving through Glen Arbor.

What a gorgeous treasure! Beautiful trails and comfortable drive about. We took the bluffs trail, & were disappointed the Stocking dr. was closed already for off season. I think with the lovely fall colours they could have a 3rd season. The dune was amazing & the climb was a blast - although we did not make it all the way to the Lake, on a blustery cold day. Short drive from Traverse City and worth the effort for at least a few hours!

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is a beautiful park. This is a very large park and you can see quite a bit by driving and taking short walks. However to view the majority of the park you will need to get out and hike.

A word of caution to visitors in the fall, winter, and spring months. Although the main visitors center in Empire, MI is open year round, along with the famous Dune Climb, many interesting parts of the park are basically only open during the summer months from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Points of interests that are closed in the fall, winter, and spring are the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive, the Dune Center Bookstore, Glen Haven General Store, Cannery Boat Museum, Glen Haven Blacksmith Shop, and Sleeping Point Maritime Museum. These are all very interesting to visit but you can only view these during the summer season.
