Our weekend at The House on the Hill was the best decision we could have made for a special New Year's Eve getaway. All the guests were invited to join the hosts & their "local" guests for a New Year's Eve celebration. It was wonderful to meet people who live in the area, as well as people from far away.

Everything was immaculate; things provided by the hosts exceeded our expectations. We will definitely return to this hidden treasure.

Room Tip: The House on the Hill offers an option to use a room in the "carriage house." We chose th...

We loved this place! We had never been to a B&B and had never been to Northern Michigan. We had a great time while staying here. The room and house was very inviting and comfortable. The owners were so pleasant and kind. The grounds were perfect because they have hiking trails and canoeing or kayaking, both activities we like. I would definitely recommend this place and I would definitely stay here again. The food was very good. The hospitality was excellent. The location was a little off the beaten path but just as lovely as the rest of Northern Michigan.

My husband and I stayed at the House on the Hill for getaway vacation before our first baby arrives. We both loved our stay at the B & B! It felt like a home away from home for us. We were greeted warmly at the door upon arrival, and were so impressed with the beautiful grounds. The common areas downstairs were so lovely! We stayed in the Rose room and loved it! So spacious and the view of St. Clair Lake was fabulous! The breakfasts were delicious and gourmet! My husband & I loved the fact that we were close to nearby cities, but also enjoyed staying on the property and walking the laid our trails of the land behind the house and taking the canoe on the lake for a morning ride out on the lake. We will definitely be back again!

Picture a gracious white home perched at the top of a hill above a large green lawn sloping down to the road and a quiet lake. Picture porches and wicker furniture. Picture the small community of Ellsworth gathering on the lawn to watch fireworks just below at the water's edge. A young 11th grade soprano singing the national anthem from the porch. Hors d'oeurves and sweets set out for the celebrration. This inn also provides large spacious comfortable rooms, almost suites. Breakast consisted of 3 courses, all wonderful. The hosts are sweet and generous and very hospitable. We'll be back to do some kayaking later this summer and perhaps some snowshoeing on their trails this winter.

This is an ideal B&B, the kind we're always hoping to find. The new owners have managed to make the House on the Hill with its lovely views an even better destination than it previously was. Their genuinely friendly and strikingly generous style of hosting makes House on the Hill a place we will stay even if we aren't planning on dining at The Rowe Inn just down the street. In addition to the charming and comfortable rooms (which now have A.C.) the living room, porch and gazebo are equally wonderful places to hang out, and we plan to stay longer next time so we can do just that.

We've never stayed in a B&B because of my husband's thinking that he didn't like them. But, The House on the Hill won him over. Marcy was friendly but not hovering. Our room was very nice and the breakfast was just wonderful. We had a wonderful time. We'll return.

Beautiful accommodations and awesome property. Although we visited in probably the worst time of the year, it was very scenic and the property offers many acres of hiking trails which are serene and enjoyable. We stayed in the back coach house that had their own private bath and a very romantic fireplace. The view out back was gorgeous and a brook offered the beautiful sound of rushing water.
The breakfast that was presented was a great experience, not only because it was delicious, but the presentation was enjoyable.
The main house was beautiful and very comfortable. We visited in late October and cannot imagine the beauty this place has in the summer or winter.
We can't wait to come back and enjoy the lake and outside areas.
The innkeepers were very nice and offered a good amount of hospitality.
