“Perfect accommodation for business trips”
Reviewed January 14, 2013

Perfect accommodation for business trips. Located in the lovely city of East Lansing. Connected to Lansing and Detroit. The room included all the comforts and was clean and with a nice view. Very professional personnel and good conference center.

This hotel is essentially the size of something I stayed in as a budget traveler in Tokyo. There is absolutely no reason that a hotel room in rural Michigan would ever need to be that size. The bathroom is also the same operation as you would find on a boat - the toilet/sink area also becomes the shower - the shower head hangs from the middle of the ceiling. This is really a crazy operation of a hotel. I have no idea what else is available in East Lansing, but I would never recommend this hotel.

I am sorry that you found the design of your room and bathroom unsatisfactory. When renovating the standard guest bathrooms, we chose a design we felt would utilize the available space in the most efficient way possible. For guests who prefer a larger room or traditional bathroom design, we offer a variety of room sizes including suites and rooms with bathtubs, which can be requested when making a reservation or at the time of check-in, based on availability.

This is my 3rd or 4th stay, I usually have nothing bad to say about this hotel. This time was a different story. When I checked in I was the only person in the lobby, the man at the desk seemed to be bothered that I was there. He was very abrupt, didn't explain the breakfast coupons or the discount in the store, or the shuttle-all things that have been mentioned in the past. Then, I left my room at 9 am returned at 8:30 pm and it had not been cleaned!! I called the desk to let them know, she said ohhh! I can send someone up, I just requested clean towels. It is disappointing to stay in such a nice hotel and get such bad service.

I am sorry to hear about your disappointment with the reception your received when checking in. We have followed up on this to ensure that all front desk personnel understand the importance of providing our guests with the highest level of customer service possible. In regards to the cleaning of your room, if a guest has a "Do Not Disturb" sign on their door when the housekeeping staff comes around, it is our policy not to enter the room.

We are glad that your past stays with us have all been positive experiences and hope that you give us the opportunity to serve you again in the future.

The room was small. Well equipped, but small. The bathroom was very small. No path tub! You can pull a curtain around one corner but the entire barroom floor will be wet. Careful not to slip!

The staff wee nice except for one lady who seemed to be annoyed by my questions. The young lady who drives the shuttle is extremely nice.

Breakfast not included. Free wifi. Very good food at the restaurant. I think the hotel is overpriced.

I have stayed many times at the Kellogg Center. But this time the assistance they provided in transportation to the stadium for a disabled member of my family, on game day, at no charge, was incredibly thoughtful and kind. It allowed him to experience what may be his last big ten stadium game. The only drawback to the rooms is the lighting which, in the spirit of conservation, is so dark as to make it difficult to see. But the service is consistently top notch.

We aren't snobs but we do like a little luxury on the occasions when we take a trip. I want the room to feel fresh and spacious, with super clean bed linens, big TV, free wireless and great shower. That's not too picky, is it?

The price was good; staff excellent; lobby comfy and chic. So opening the door to our tiny room was a disappointment. The two full size beds (not queen) leave just a small walking space around the room. The decor is modern in shades of brown, but I'd rather have enough room so I don't have to jump over my luggage! The TV is about 32". Wireless is free and fast.

And where is the bathtub? Or even a real shower? We were shocked to see the shower head sticking straight out of the ceiling near the toilet (see photo) with a drain in the middle of the floor. Seriously, you can pee and shower at the same time. There is a shower curtain, but everything gets soaked, the mirror fogs up, and the entire bathroom floor is a puddle. It may look "trendy" but it's very messy and inconvenient.

And then when we pulled back the blankets, there were several long dark hairs on the sheets. Ew!

The hotel restaurant (The State) isn't open on Sunday evenings so we had to eat in the bar. The menu is burgers, flatbread pizzas and appetizers that were tasty.

The fitness room was nice, but it's in the lowest level and the area was utterly deserted on a Sunday evening. I felt uncomfortable working out alone and left after a few minutes.

We could not cancel the second night of our reservation (to go somewhere else) because they require 48-hour notice for a refund. So...we're here for two nights. No luxury for us this trip. Disappointing. We won't be back.

Room Tip: You could try asking for a room with a real bathtub and more room. I don't know if they have any...

Remember their $2 then $3 hotel fee? They now tack on $5 on top of the 18% tax rate. Despite this I still love the place! Free use of campus gym and pools (including outdoor pool which is open until October), parking is free and indoors, great nearby restaurants, walk or jog along the Red Cedar River, and eat across the street at the Brody Food Court. Yes, the rooms are small and the bathrooms smaller. But you can watch the Canadian TV on Channel 27. And I forgot to mention the great staff--some in training for the hospitality industry. But beware of the annoying $5 add on fee.

Room Tip: Get a room facing the Red Cedar River or a corner suite. The suites are larger (as are the suites bat...

Thank you for your wonderful comments about our hotel. Like you, many guests return to our facility for the numerous amenities and conveniences we offer. The hotel fee you mentioned was instituted as an alternative to the current practice of many hotels which access individual fees for many such amenities. Our hotel fee covers Wi-Fi, covered parking, campus gym access, airport shuttle and local, long distance and international calling. We feel that providing these conveniences as a flat fee actually gives our guests better value for their money.

We appreciate your taking the time to give us feedback and look forward to serving you again in the future.
