“Now here's a Casino Restaurant done right.”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

Right from the start, you pull up at the Motor City HOTEL entrance. Not at all crowded. Very good valet. You come in thru the Hotel Lobby, and are Never exposed to the Casino. Stunning views from above. Excellent menu, and some very original dishes. Try the Chef's Tasting Menu if you want something New & Special. EXPENSIVE!!! Stay at the Hotel, if you can. NOT Expensive, and Very Lovely & well appointed rooms. The Hotel knows that it is NOT in the Hotel Business, but rather, the Customer Service Business!!!!

Wow, thanks for all the great feedback! We love hearing from our customers about everything ranging from the ground floor valet service to the stunning 16th floor views (and everything in between). We’ll let Chef Ben know you enjoyed the tasting menu (we still haven’t convinced him that we need to experience it for ourselves to make sure we can appropriately comment about it online :-) Don’t be a stranger.

We had been to Iridescence before and had a nice dining experience so we went back last night with a friend to celebrate his birthday. We were seated right at the window and had a nice view of the city. they had a special prix fixe menu (3 courses for $45) as well as the regular one.
It was not too busy there and we had a drink and then ordered.

Two of us had the lettuce wraps which were good, I had the tiny salad sampler, which was pretty mediocre, the tomatoes in the 'caprese' were spotted, there was a green gelled item with the "2" from the container embossed in the top, and the chilled soup was pretty much just 1/2 and 1/2 without much seasoning. I had the oysters rockefeller for an entrée, they were small, but tasty. The other two ordered a steak and chicken dish which were both good, but not outstanding. the dessert (no choice with the prix fixe menu) was strange--a combo of a gelled chocolate thing, and banana ice cream. hmmm.

our waiter was extremely chatty and I felt, intrusive. we were trying to have a conversation and he kept showing up like he was the life of the party. the gentlemen busing the tables were omnipresent, filling my water glass every time I took a sip, which I personally find annoying, and removing the plates before you could put your fork down which I also do not like. then after this flurry of action...nothing. we waited a good 30 minutes for the bill, not even seeing our waiter to flag him down. then he made a $25 error on our bill, which my husband caught, but that took another 15-20 mins to rectify.

to sum it up: $160 for a pretty average meal for 3 with irritating wait staff and a great view. With so many other great places to go in Detroit, this is likely our last time at Iridescence.

“Great Atmosphere”
Reviewed August 8, 2013

My husband and I come here once a year and love it each time. We love how the menu changes and we love the atmosphere. We try to get there a little early since it's not a huge place.

We like to stay once it starts getting dark because the place looks amazing when the sun goes down. The view can't be beat of the city. Try and get a table by the window - we loved it.

Their peanut butter bar dessert is to die for! Make sure you save room to get one!

“Try the 7 course tasting off the menu...”
Reviewed August 6, 2013

Iridescence is an up-scale restaurant atop the 16th floor of the MotorCity casino. If you’re able to reserve a table for two next to the window, you will have a great view of the Detroit skyline. While you may dress up for the occasion, I find most people in business casual attire. As you enter into the restaurant, there is a bar and piano in the lobby. The bar is very small and there are a few tables for larger groups. In the restaurant itself, it is very open with high ceilings. There is an elevator wine rack with a large selection. The service was very good and attentive. The prices range from $30-$100 for an entrée. It was not on the menu we decide on the seven-course tasting for $80/person. Both of us had to get it and you do not have any choice in entrée selection. It is up to the chef on your appetizer, entrees, and dessert. Without going into detail on every plate, all were good to excellent. There ended up being an appetizer, three seafood entrees, two meat entrees, and a dessert. While the portions were not big as you may expect, by the 6th dish, I was pretty full. We actually found it to be a good value and an excellent opportunity to try various dishes with the seven-course meal. I’m sure if you ordered a la carte appetizer, entrée, and dessert you would be over $80.

Compares to dinner at the Eiffle Tower in Las Vegas. A must do in Detroit.
We went for our 50th wedding anniv. and will probably revisit for our next special occasion.
