Wow, this remodel is absolutely stunning... we're local, but decided to stay downtown to check out the new hotel. It was just gorgeous!! Modern but historic. Honestly, they accidentally checked us into a dirty room, but I'm hoping that can be chalked up to being new and working out some kinks... they immediately upgraded us to a huge suite with amazing views of the city and the bridge and gave us club level access. While we were there we ate at the 24 Grille, which was a little more elaborate (and expensive) than we had anticipated, but it was great nonetheless. Also, we saw a show at the Fillmore and it was within walking distance (maybe 10 minutes). Even though we're only about 20 minutes away from downtown, we're already trying to think of an excuse to stay there again. =)

Downtown Detroit always reminds me of Gotham City the morning after a particularly bad night of super-villain mayhem, but this hotel is truly a gem. I've stayed at many Westins throughout the world, but I can honestly say I've never seen one cleaner than this. That could simply be because it's brand-spanking new, but whatever the reason, I'll take it. The staff were courteous and helpful, and gladly accommodated my somewhat particular room request. I'm not sure there's any location in downtown Detroit where you would feel comfortable going for a leisurely stroll at night, but the hotel was conveniently close to Joe Louis Arena and anywhere else you would need to be downtown. The room was roomy, clean and comfortable, though the reception on the TV was quite poor. The breakfast restaurant was strictly average, but the lounge and restaurant at 24 was fantastic. Other than perhaps the view over the river, I'd say the Westin definitely wins hands down over the Marriott at the Renaissance Center, and I'll be staying at the Westin from now on.

My wife and I stayed at the WBC for Final-4 weekend. They had a paid-in-advance, non-refundable, 4-night-minimum $500 rate in effect. We said, "OK, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Plus. it's a Westin."

Get there Friday night (the first of our required nights), all looks ok, but we notice a spilled coffee stain on the threshold leading from the bedroom into the bathroom.
We think, "no problem, housekeeping will take care of that." Get ice from the ice machine, have a drink, go to bed.

Next morning, discover that phones don't work. Walked down hall to elevators, call "service express," engineers arrive, fix phones. Make coffee and tea then gone all day seeing Detroit and basketball games. Get back to room that night, beds are made but coffee stain still on threshold, bag in ice container now filled with warm water, coffee and tea not replaced. It's 1AM now, so go to bed. Next day, see more of Detroit, come back to room to discover phones don't work, toilet running slowly. Beds made, but same stain still on bathroom floor, now along with dirty footprints presumably from engineers who fixed toilet. Same bag in ice container with water in it. No coffee or tea. Also, no washcloths. Phones working, though!

Washcloths never arrived despite call to service express. Floor never cleaned in bathroom. Phones didn't work two out of the three days we were there. Not sure what would have happened had we had a 911 emergency. Wouldn't you think replacing the dirty bag in the ice container would be part of the housekeeping protocol, especially for a room costing $500/night?

Granted, the hotel was full because of this event, and I'm sure services were stressed by the fact the hotel was full. But they knew this weekend was coming years in advance, and they had the opportunity to prepare for it. The Westin's response to our laundry list of issues: Offered us a free lunch. We left a day early. Very poor experience at this Westin, and we won't be back. Don't make the same mistake we did.

I am a Metro Detroiter and I have to say that this is one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed at. The architecture on the facade of the bulilding is simlpy amazing. The interior was completely gutted after 20 years of sitting vacant. There are marble floors in both the first and second floor lobbies which brings elegance back to Detroit. On the fourth floor the Italian Garden and the Venitian Ballroom were restored to their original graduer. The hotel rooms were nicely sized and tastefully decorated. The staff was friendly and outgoing to make guest happy. If you are thinking about coming to Detroit for buisness or leisure be sure to consider the Book-Cadillac as your hotel. The hotel is truly the most grand hotel in Detroit and I would recomend it to anyone!

We stayed at the Westin Book Cadillac this past weekend and absolutely loved it. We understand the building underwent a huge renovation and they could not have done a better job -- the room itself, the lobby, the pool, the restaurant and bar, everything was just spectacular. The staff were very helpful, as well. We had also never been to Detroit before and were really impressed by the city itself -- such a rich history, great architecture, and we met many interesting and friendly people, as well. Would highly recommend a trip here and to this hotel to anyone, we will definitely be back.

Just stayed this past weekend for the Nickelback concert at the Joe Louis Arena. The hotel was easily withing walking distance of Cobo and the Joe. The parking garage behind the hotel was only $10 a day to park. Unfortunately, the walk way from the garage to the hotel is for the "residents" only. Hotel guests have to use the surface sidewalks. Not a big deal, but if it was late at night, it could be kinda shady... The hotel itself was perfect. Everything was new and very clean, as it should be. We had a corner suite - very large and decorated in a pleasing modern motif. The Westin "heavenly" bed was a very firm mattress - much more firm that the "revive" collection at Marriotts. The marble shower was huge and the rest of the bathroom was large as well. As previously reviewed, you do need a keycard to access areas in the hotel (i.e. elevators, pool/spa, gym, etc..) Once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy. My only gripe is that sometimes the card slot is not where it should logically be and you have to search for it. The other issue I had was with the in-room phone. It beeped periodically throughout the night for no apparent reason. There was also no phone directory for the hotel listed on or nearby the phone (I had no idea what to push to get the front desk.) We had to walk to the check-in desk to find out what floor the pool was on and what the hours of operation were. Not a big deal, because we asked on our way back from the show. All-in-all, this is a five star hotel with nice ammenities and beautiful architecture. We had a great view from room at the corner of Michigan ave and Washington blvd. and a great experience overall. It's too bad there are lots of delapidated buildings nearby. We highly recommed the Book Cadillac.

My girlfriend and I enjoyed a night at the newly restored Westin Book Cadillace in downtown Detroit. The purpose of our stay was to watch the tree lighting in Campus Martius and enjoy some of the nightlife in the city.

The hotel is located on Washington Blvd. about three blocks from Campus Martius (the heart of the city). Consequently, everything we did was within easy walking distance. The hotel's parking garage is joined to the hotel although when we visited, the pedestrian bridge from the garage to the hotel was still under construction.

We had a spacious and clean room with a nice view of downtown. The bathroom was fairly large too, and had a very nice double-headed shower.

The hotel staff was pleasant and helpful, and very easy to find. We did not encounter any problems during our stay. We would definitely stay at the Westin Book Cadillac again.
