We spent St Patrick's weekend at the Book for a huge cheerleading competition. First, I've been to Detroit many times. Between the partiers, cheer families, the numerous weddings, 70 degree weather, and an beautiful ball in our hotel- downtown was transformed. For the first time since I can remember, I felt a safe, friendly atmosphere walking down the streets. It gave me a glimmer of hope as to what Detroit can be. Still- too many vacant buildings that reek of urine- maybe someday. Needless to say, the 5 minute walk to Cobo was a breeze.
I love this hotel. This was our first time here. The traffic out front is rough, but the valets RUN to get cars and are very courteous. In out privileges was great for quick trip to Wolfgang Puck at the MGM. We were greeted as SPG members and able to get a government rate. Our room had a view of the river. It is dog friendly, though we only saw one other dog. There were no bad smells, either. The bathroom was enormous and had a window, which was unusual and delightful with the warm spring weather. There are plenty of outlets, drawer space, workspace, closet space, and large, flat screen TV. The heavenly beds were heavenly as always.More
