“An Interesting Look at Street Art”
Reviewed May 20, 2013 via mobile

The area was very easy to find on our google maps. There were a few tourists who had come in taxis and one gentleman at the info booth who gave us a brochure on the area. I admire the artist who has tried to bring interest and colour to a very impoverished area. After reading the reviews I was somewhat nervous to venture to this area but it was very quiet and I am glad we made the trip!

“Great Creation”

Please Visit. This art instillation is a great and well kept part of Detroit history. Overall, the neighborhood is safe and secure.

“Unique, almost psychedelic experience”
Reviewed April 17, 2013

Whether you're into trash disguised as alternative art or more conservative this is something to experience.
It does have some strange aesthetic that will not leave you quiet: You will either enjoy it and admire the creativity and resourcefulness of its artists or leave angered at some useless junk.
One word of caution: It's not close to anything and it may not be very safe if you're travelling by yourself (well, that applies to the entire city).

“Heidelberg Awful”
Reviewed April 15, 2013

Trash in a trashy neighborhood. This once a beautiful area is now epitomized by this expression of disjointed reality. Not beautiful...art yes...devolved as is the neighborhood.

“Not for everyone, but I love this place”
Reviewed January 24, 2013

The Heidelberg Project in downtown Detroit speaks to the urban decay that the city has suffered and the passion of the people who will never let this city die.
The artwork is urban and is largely made up of reused "trash" that has been recovered. The entire block has been transformed by art installations and paintings that have been done on any available surface. Unfortunately the famous doll head house was removed by the city several years ago, but many of the 'decorated' homes are still intact. Plan to spend at least an hour checking out all the different places that artists have transformed in this special Detroit neighbourhood.
I would also encourage you to purchase a t-shirt or simply donate to the Heidelberg Project (booth with representative onsite) while there -- the work that they do with the community and young artists is second to none.
