“Such a great time, and delicious food & veggies!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 20, 2013

Delicious food pretty much ensures that I will have a good time, and Eastern Market did not disappoint. There was a great vibe with people everywhere, even in January (although it was an unseasonably warm day). The market vendors themselves are in "Sheds." One shed seemed to have predominately vendors who were selling produce they grew themselves and some food trucks, while the other one that was open had a lot of vendors selling either veggies that were out of season or pre-packaged veggies that appeared to be from a grocery store. There did seem to be a lot of local pork and other meat products in that shed, though (my husband was very excited to buy some hickory-smoked bacon). Prices were reasonable and there were lots of samples. Walking in there was a restaurant blaring both live and pre-recorded music - all part of the experience I guess, but, uh, we didn't eat there. Everyone was very friendly. Very, very fun experience!

“Love the uniqueness”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 15, 2012

I prefer more serene places but once or twice a year I enjoy a shopping trip to Eastern Market. It has an urban funk with panhandlers and some legendary ruins only a couple of blocks away. Germack has replaced Rafel Spice Company and Devries has replaced RJ Hirt but both stores have some unique items for sale. Rocky Peanut Company is pretty much the same as it has been.

the sheds have been upgraded over the past few years although you have to wonder how big of a kickback Kwame and Bobby Ferguson got out of the deal. Lots of produce, meats, and other fresh food for sale. Don't forget to walk across the pedestrian bridge over Gratiot and have your sense of smell assaulted by the incense and other stinky crap for sale. The goal is the building with all of the meat vendors and the reward is some excellent cuts of meat

“Eastern Market is a great place to visit.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2012

What a fun place to go! Gratiot market is great for meats of all types - great selections, prices and wonderful folks to help. Ronnies has a great selection of beef and pork. Randy's is the place to go for sausage and bacon. The veggies and farm stands in the market area are wonderful - great selections and prices - a shoppers paradise. Looking for candy or spices - Rocky's has it all.

“Good produce”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 25, 2012

We went on a Tuesday afternoon. Shed 2 was open as advertised, but also Shed 1. There was a lot of produce to choose from and spices, home baked goodies. Several food carts that looked good. Got a great chocolate shake at Mootown ice cream. We got very good kielbasa sandwiches at the seafood market close by. Cheap!! You could choose several different kinds of kielbasa, quite a treat. Lots of fun things to look at for your yard in Shed 1. Very enjoyable afternoon!
