“Poor customer services”

Detroit Public Library
Ranked #53 of 155 things to do in Detroit

I would never recommend anyone to visit the Detroit Public Library , which is very unforunate given that it is a beautiful building. The people are always loud , and disorderly , and customer service is very poor. I live in the city but until the morale goes up I will no longer support the Detroit Public Library.

Wow libraries like these just aren't built anymore. It's a treat just to come in here for the gazing. Between the great architecture and the wealth of information one can easily spend an entire day here.
I love the music department since I'm a singer.

A Detroit Institution, great place to visit if only to see the Architecture and artwork. Certainly a decent library if you need that function as well.

Unfortunately, Detroit public libraries have been mismanaged, underfunded, and many sites left in disrepair. There are certain branches that I simply would not visit under any circumstance. Many of the facilities are in shady neighborhoods, others are in disrepair, books are left out of order making it hard to find resources, and much more. The closest library branch to where I grew up was right near liquor stores, had broken windows, and just not a place I could ever imagine going to study or research topics.

Worth a trip to see the building and directly across from the DIA. Go in to see the murals on the second floor, and the Pewabic Tile fireplace in the old Children's reading room.
