Owner description: The Detroit People Mover (DPM) is a fully automated light rail system that operates on an elevated single-track loop in Detroit's central business district. Launched in 1987, the system’s 13 stations provide quick connections between the courts and administrative offices of several levels of government, sports arenas, exhibition centers, major hotels, and commercial, banking and retail districts. Service is frequent and unencumbered by vehicle or pedestrian traffic, and at just 75 cents per ride, it’s the best bargain in town!

Before my review, I will explain the nickname "People Mugger". This name has nothing to do with crime at all. The name came from 50% cost over runs and a year longer to build it than estimated. Our mayor, Coleman Young also thought people called it that because of crime. He promised security guards at every station and free rides for the police. I never felt afraid riding it.

Now for my review. The only thing keeping me from giving it five stars, is how short the rail is. It's best usage is riding from Joe Louis Arena (Hockey and concerts) to Greek Town Casino parking. You can park in Greek Town, then go and visit the tables for some pregame fun

After some fun at the tables, go to the Joe for the game. Then after the Wings have won, you can head back to Greek Town for your dinner and a few drinks before heading home. Be careful driving home, and make sure you have a designated driver handy. Have a good day, and enjoy!

Great way to get the idea of the small, yet very nice downtown Deroit...park your car...take the peoplemover...go at least one complete circle and get off at the station closer to the sites you want to visit...it is only .75 cents and you can go arround as many times as you want...once you are out you have to pay again...very relaxing and safe....

The Detroit People Mover is like any other urban transportation system except it doesn't take you to many place worth going to.

The People Mover does it's job. It is a great alternative to walking around Detroit (especially at night or in the cold). Really doesn't take you that far, but it is cheap and you get good sights of the ciy.

Riding the people mover is a great way to see downtown Detroit for a very low price. The stations are all nice and well lit, and you should make a point of checking out the art at each one. Make sure you ride it around a full loop or even two! Fun for the whole family, many great photo opportunities. Especially good when going to or from Joe Louis Arena.
