Detroit does not always have a reputation as a good city to go to. However, it is not as lawless as some people may perceive. In downtown Detroit, one can always go to the Riverside just across Windsor, canada.
The Detroit people mover, an electric train that goes around downtown is a good transportation for 50cents a ride.
Near the downtown is Wayne State University where a lot of godd restaurants are. I particularly like the Cass cafe, an artsy place with great food too. There is also a good bakery near the campus (I forgot the name)
We went there during the Detroit International Jazz Festival and it was well worth it!!!

Cass Cafe is a great place. The menu is slightly ecclectic and everything on it is good. This place is located near the Wayne State University campus, so it's not posh or pretentious; it's ust a laid back, low pressure place with good food - sandwiches, salads, soup, veggies and some interesting entrees. Service is quick and the price is reasonable.

After a few visits, I'm OVER Cass cafe. I want to support the Corridor but a meal at Cass Cafe is an ordeal. OK, the waitress doesn't really want to be waitress; OK that the openness makes it hard to hear the person across the table; OK that there really isn't a no-smoking area. BUT, add bad food (fish and chips sent back for room-temp fries and the fish had never seen a human in the prep process) to the mix.... just awful.

In town looking for my missing daughter, i went to the Cass Cafe. Just for a quick bite....

I found the best burger in the world. I licked the plate!!!! Went back 3 times in 2 days!

The staff was very nice and being from NYC a little cautious. But the waitress truly cared.

Thank you!!!
