“Great outside area to go with the wonderful food!”
Reviewed May 19, 2013 via mobile

We've been to Mexicantown a few times and always enjoy the food. First time here at this restaurant and must say we were pleased. We were walked through the kitchen which seemed pretty clean to get to the outside patio . Of course the village isn't in the best part of town but we felt totally safe with parki g Nd walking around. The building is cool (almost 100 years old in a former bank and its interesting to look out over the old train station in the distance. The food is pretty Authentic and everything we ordered was great from the margaritas to the flan. Prices were very reasonable even when you consider plastic cups for the water... I would definitely recommend checking them out.

“Frequent this restaurant often”
Reviewed February 22, 2013

My husband and I come down to Mexican village often, and have tried a few of the restaurants. If you're looking for the tastiest fajitas, El Zocalo is the place to go! I recommend the chicken/steak combo. They also have very good queso flameado too! Margaritas are delish, and so is their fried ice cream. We always have attentive staff- chips, salsa, drinks, etc. The parking lot is secure and patrolled, and the kitchen is CLEAN (you walk through it to get seated!). The restaurant may have been updated within the past few years- it's nice and bright and you can see what you're eating.

“First Visit to this Mexicantown Restaurant”
Reviewed December 30, 2012

My friend and I got there around 5:30 p.m. on a Sunday and the place was packed----always a good sign. It was very cold outside, and warm on the inside, and there was steam rising onto the windows from the fresh tortillas being made. Another good sign. We were seated right away, and our server was quite attentive with drinks, the appetizer, and our main courses. My friend and I both had combination plates---I had the steak tampiqueno. The platters were loaded with food---very generous portions. The food was very good, and well-seasoned. For some unknown reason, the service dropped off at the 2nd half of the meal. We had to wait for a very long time for our plates to be cleared. The bowls of salsa and soiled napkins were never cleared. We asked twice for a dessert menu. Finally got to order dessert---the fried icecream, which was delicious. They made a fresh pot of coffee for us, which was appreciated. Except for the inexplicable inattentive service in the 2nd half of our meal, everything was very nice. The owner also came out and made the rounds a couple of times, to talk to the customers. A nice touch, but he lingers a little too long at the table and it got a bit awkward after awhile. I would definitely return to this restaurant. The price for the entire meal was very, very reasonable, especially considering the size of the portions. Also a plus---fenced-in parking lot, well-lit.

Best Mexican food you can get , seems authentic . Only bad part is the lousy neighborhood you need to drive through to get there.
