“Roma Cafe.. You're still the one”
Reviewed July 9, 2012 via mobile

The reports of the downfall of Roma Cafe and Detroit's classics are greatly exaggerated. My entire Detroit upbringing centured around the Roma and having returned after a long absence I was not disappointed. The classic Roma Salad with the side of anchovies still puzzles me with the oil vinegar combo, what else is in there. The veal marsala, although now smaller in portions, sweet and thick. And Roma still shakes a great martini.

“Old, Tired but Good”
Reviewed July 6, 2012 via mobile

The Roma has been a part of Detroit for years. The restaraunt rooms, carpeting, the environment is as it has been for decades. It is apparent that no money has been put in freshing or renovating.

That said, the food is good. Each waiter mixes his own Roma salad. The bread is fresh & crusty. Butter - foil wrapped pats. Wine list is basic but the pours are nice size. My meat ravioli was very good. The rum spumonni was wonderful.
It is good but old & tired.

“Old school Italian food done just like mama made!”
Reviewed July 1, 2012

Detroit's oldest restaurant and obviously over time, they've figured out to do it right. The food is amazing and the service is second to none in the city. This place has waiters, not college age kids trying to earn a few bucks for tuition money. They know service and respect a customer's wishes. They make it a truly elegant dining experience. While there we saw one of the waiters serenade a young guy who was there to celebrate his birthday- sure the guy blushed like no one's business but it was truly a nice gesture and totally unscripted. It definitely wasn't a handful of gorpy young folks coming over clapping and making a staged commotion like you'd see at some chain restaurants. While the interior harkens back to a bygone era, the place still exudes a rich plush class one doesn't find any more. If you're looking for some bright glitzy, neon infested place, Roma isn't for you. The food is served quickly and promptly. The sauces are amazing and the portions are generous. This place has got a charm all unto itself- the sort of place you'd expect to see the entire cast of the Sorpranos dining here. It's genuinely authentic, without pretense and is a great place to get a hearty portion of great Italian food.

“Best Italian food”
Reviewed June 4, 2012

This is the oldest Italian place in Detroit. The atmosphere is great and the waiters and staff are very friendly. The food is excellant. I haven't had a bad meal yet. If you like meat ravolli, I would def recommend that. Pretty much anything with meat sauce is good.
