“Cheaper than most hotels downtown!”

Compared to a lot of the hotels downtown this hotel was one of the cheapest! And taking that in consideration i really like this hotel! Service is ok. Parking is a bit pricy, $20

Thank you for choosing to stay with us. We're glad you enjoyed your overall stay and appreciate the feedback. Since our hotel is located in major city downtown, parking is limited and comes at a price. We do not own the lot, we purchase the spots for our guests for their convenience. Our prices are the same or lower than the other hotels that are downtown. We hope to be at your service the next time you are in Detroit.

We went to the Friday night Tiger's game against Cleveland last Friday. We enjoyed this hotel and found the value to be good. Location wise it is highly ideal for a game night or to enjoy Greektown.

Here are the pros we found:
-Hotel is great location for a game. There is a pretty good sports bar across the street too. It is only 1 block from Comerica Park and Ford Field.
-Hotel itself and rooms were clean and nice.
-Front desk service was great.
-Beds were very comfy.
-Room was spacious, it also came with a microwave and a mini fridge.

Cons
-Bar/restaurant was not open upon our arrival at 6:30 PM. I wanted to grab a beer before heading to the game. Not a real big deal though as there are several bars in close walking distance.
-Overnight valet there is $20.

Overall we really didn't have too many complaints. The room was very nice and the location can't be beat. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Detroit for an event at Ford Field or Comerica Park.

I am so glad we found this hotel. The location was excellent. This Hotel was clean. The staff was very friendly. They have a nice pool, and spa, exercise room, restaurant etc. I have nothing bad to say about our stay. I will stay here from now on, when we visit Detroit. It is Walking distance to Greek Town any many more attractions. You can not beat the price. The other Hotels in the same area, with less amenities, were charging double the price we paid for the Hilton. We have stayed in several hotels in this area, and I must say for the price this is the best one we have came across.
I was a little worried because of a few reviews we read, but we took a chance and I am glad we did. They had a frig, microwave, coffee maker, name brand soaps and lotions, Ironing board. Nice desk and chairs very comfortable beds etc. Oh and free internet, fax, and business machine use. We went with another couple and they are two very picky people, they were very pleased as well. I was shocked! Usually even if something is perfect. they will find something to complain about. I have no regrets we had a great stay!

  • Liked — Clean and friendly and the location
  • Disliked — twenty dollar parking.

My father and I were travelling to Detroit for a Labor Day baseball game vs. the Yankees. We had just spent the weekend in Chicago @ Wrigley and came here to see the Yankees. I found this hotel by searching online and reading other reviews. The reason I chose this property was for its location. It's a Hilton, so how awful could it be.
It was about a half hour cab ride from the airport. We checked in, changed, and walked to Comerica Park. It was a day game and while the area was not great, it was fine. I am in my 30s and my father is 76. It was a five minute walk to the stadium and Ford Field is right across the street. It was perfect!
Then we walked back to the hotel and went to find dinner. The one big negative was that the hotel restaurant was closed because it was Labor Day. I thought holidays did not apply to hotels, but oh well. We instead walked to another restaurant about 10 min down the road. The name escapes me, but they featured Cajun-style food. They were great.
For any sports enthusiasts in town for a Tigers/Lions game or the Final Four, this hotel is the perfect place to stay. It's affordable and so close. The rooms were nice and the hotel was quiet.

  • Liked — Proximity to Comerica Park and Ford Field.
  • Disliked — Hotel restaurant closed on Labor Day.

Chose this hotel for a wedding at the Detroit Athletic Club.

It was a saturday night, and since we didn't care about sleeping, it didn't matter much that our walls were shaking with bass until 4am.

The hotel is on the newer side, and is well laid out. Not a lot of parking, so you have to valet, but at least your car will be there in the morning.

It served the purpose, but probably not worth the money.

I stayed in one room with our two daughters, and our friends stayed in a separate room, during late March 2008. We were in town for the NCAA regionals at Ford Field, and this hotel was a very convenient choice.

There is nothing fundamentally wrong with this hotel itself - other than the fact they were renovating the restaurant during our stay and serving nothing but a weak continental breakfast. Rooms were adequate, staff was reasonably responsive, valet parking worked okay, etc. My biggest complaint was that I could not find anywhere in the hotel to buy a newspaper on a Sunday morning.

If you are going to events somewhere in the two blocks surrounding the hotel, I suppose it makes sense to stay here. It's certainly safe to walk to and from Ford Field or Comerica Park at game times. But at other times (especially after dark), one should be quite careful. Our daughters were freaked out a bit by the (often aggressive) panhandlers. Our party of five was accosted three times in less than one block as we walked back to the hotel from dinner one evening.

  • Liked — Close to sporting venues
  • Disliked — Questionable neighborhood after dark

The Hilton Garden Inn Detroit is a newer Garden Inn - very modern and clean. It's walking distance to some decent restaurants, which you need because the restaurant was out of service when I was there. You can't really lose with this hotel if you need to stay downtown. Nicer than some "higher end" Hilton's.
