This museum trip was incredible all the way around. Admission was cheap. I have trouble walking and standing, so a cart was provided me by very kind and understanding museum staff. The exhibits were astonishing and presented beautifully. They even have an entire room painted by the muralist Diego Rivera. I could have spent all day slowly enjoying all the masterpieces available at this gorgeous museum. We ended with a truly delicious lunch at the cafeteria.

Without exception, every museum staff member and cafeteria worker we met was friendly and nice, which really added to our experience.

Any trip back to Detroit will have to include another visit to this exceptional museum.

This was a wonderful exhibition. Priceless works if art, displayed to showcase the limitless talent of the craftsmen who made them.

There are a number of world renowned artists--Matisse, Reubin, Warhol, Van Gogh, Renoir, and I know I am forgetting quite a few others. I was very very impressed. The admission charge for adults was only $8-quite a bit cheaper than flying to Europe to see works by those masters. There are a couple of restaurants on the premises and outdoor concerts as well. Near Wayne State University in Midtown. It is quite impressive and worth the effort to see.

This was our first visit to Detroit, and we went to the DIA on a Friday night because they were open until 10pm. DIA is on the campus of Wayne State University and around a lot of other cultural buildings.
The inside of the museum is gorgeous, quite classic! Stairways of marble, chandeliers, timeless! Beautiful collections and well worth a visit!
We were lucky to arrive on a night where there were outdoor concerts and admission to the museum was free! Even without, $8 admission price would be well worth it!

This was our first trip to Detroit and we had no idea that a museum of the quality of the Detroit Institute of Art was here. The exhibits are thoughtfully presented in ways that invite you to ask questions and learn more about them. The works and relics here are as high a quality as you will find in any US city’s art museum. If you have any interest in museums and art you must add the Detroit Institute of Art to your itinerary. Give yourself at least a couple of hours for a quick visit, much more time if you want to seriously consider all that is offered here.
