“Pleasant Surprise for Detroit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 8, 2013

No one seems to think of Detroit as a "tourist destination" and it really isn't, but it was a nice pit-stop as we headed east on our road trip. We chose IOFS based on reviews and their complimentary breakfast and shuttle service and we are really glad we did! The breakfast was simple but it did the trick to hold us over to a late lunch and the shuttle service helped us save on taxi fare or parking fees.
I'd recommend this hotel/inn to others it has a nice charm and wonderful staff!

This hotel was booked for me by my organization for a conference at Wayne State. I wasn't sure what to think, but I was totally blown away by the place. The houses have been meticulously renovated and restored and every room is just beautiful! The staff are amazing - so helpful, courteous and very prompt. There is a shuttle that will drive you anywhere within a 5 mile radius at your request and the driver gives a wonderful historical tour on the way!

The rooms are clean and charming with all amenities you could need, including a wonderful fresh-baked cookie from a local bakery! Free wifi is also a plus. The complimentary breakfast was fantastic and such a great surprise. My only regret about this hotel is that I don't have a lot of reason to get to Detroit, so I'm not sure of when I can get back there!

It's quite an unusual situation. Several Victorian homes situated on the same street making up the most quaint hotel I have ever stayed in.

The homes are old so, that being said, old homes have old home issues but that only adds to the character of the hotel. I recommend eating breakfast in the main house with the other guests. It's the center hub for the property. It's here you will gain insight and guidance on what and where to go. Detroit, I have found, has many hidden jewels to include the wonderful architecture downtown, the river front with the museums only a short walk away.

The most attactive part of your stay at the Inn on Ferry Street beisdes the beautiful rooms, will be the shuttle service. This team of dedicated professionals will not only take you where ever you would like to go, they will also pick you up and take you to your next destination providing expert insight into the city. Our driver, Tom (?) made several stops into different buildings downtown to show us what Detroit was and with hope, can be again.

Don't be scared of by what you think Detroit is. Give it and this charming hotel a chance to win you over and you will not be disappointed.

Thank you Inn on Ferry Street and thank you Tom. I look forward to my next stay.

Matthew Carson

One does not often think of Detroit as a place to go but I found myself there on several occasions now and find areas of it quite charming. The architecture of the city is lovely; harkening back to an earlier -more prosperous- time. The Inn on Ferry St represents the Detroit at its best. It comprises 5-6 renovated mansions built in the late 1800's. My favorite house is Roehm house which offers a baby grand piano in its spacious living room and yes, they encourage you to play as it was recently tuned. The Inn is located near Wayne State University, the Museum and the Symphony as well as a short drive to "Greektown" and the waterfront. The staff at the Inn is gracious and accomodating especially the drivers, some of whom are well versed on the history of Detroit and its points of interest. They provide a wonderful breakfast in the main house with eggs, Belgian waffles, any number of freshly baked items and my personal favorite- fresh berries! This is truly a charming place to stay when visiting Detroit.

We spent 3 nights at the Inn on Ferry Street in Detroit. The Inn comprises 4 restored Victorian homes and 2 carriage houses. Rooms are beautifully done with vintage inspired themes. Those who cannot do stairs should request a first floor room. It can be a long climb to some third floor rooms with no elevators. The breakfast area is in one of the living room/dining room areas of one of the homes. Fresh homemade style breads & pastries are served along with fresh fruit, eggs, waffles and other continental items. Seating can be hard to get when the Inn is full. Each house has a sitting area for meetings or visiting in larger groups. The shuttle service is outstanding with knowledgeable drivers. Will drop off or pick up guests anywhere in a 5 mile radius. Great for events downtown, ball games, theaters, sightseeing, etc. just call when you are ready to return to the Inn. Would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend the Inn. Thanks for the great stay!

Room Tip: Third floor rooms are quieter but tend to have lower ceilings due to being in the attic and are a lo...

This is a very nice, comfortable place to stay on a pleasant street with old houses everywhere. The service is exceptional. Their shuttle drivers are especially good, going above and beyond the call of duty. They picked me up from the Amtrak station and took me to and from the ballpark as well.

We were so glad we found this hidden gem! Fell in love with these historic homes and found the area quiet and easy to navigate to local attractions. The staff were extremely helpful and had excellent recommendations for sightseeing. We were grateful for the shuttle service and tasty breakfast each morning. Have already recommended this inn to others-we saw a new side of Detroit and had a wonderful weekend!
