Came for Happy Hours special at the bar, so didn't get to enjoy the view as much.

Bar Manager seemed very personable and seemed to know the regulars, always a good sign.

Got the mussels, very good but not the best I've ever had. Had to request the toasts that it was supposed to come with.

Would like to come back to see how it is at dinner, as this was good but not quite what I expected for its reputation.

We have coming here for years. This restaurant is the rebirth of the original Joe Muer's that had been a Detroit Institution for decades. What an excellent selection of food (mostly seafood), great wait staff, and an outstanding view of the Detroit River and Windsor, Ontario. One of our favorite places from around the Detroit Area.

We were in Detroit for a wedding and on Sunday we had time to explore and went to the Renaissance Center looking for fun, it is great place along the river and then we discovered Joe Muer Seafood. The menu looked grand so we decided to check it out. First of all the restaurant has floor to ceiling windows over the river, what views, immaculately decorated. We were in our shorts and t shirts and we saw a sign for proper attire, but it being summer we thought go for it. Spoke with hostess and asked her for a table right on the river (how many times have you asked that question and it turns our the table is three or more tables from the window)she sat us at a premium location right at the glass! So the waiter Joe brought the menu and we noticed this was not the menu that was posted outside, but it was the Sunday Brunch menu. the waiter assured us anything on the regular menu could be prepared and not to be concerned. He also presented the choices of oysters they had for that day and goodness, what choices, we ordered a half a dozen and were they soo good and fresh!! We then ordered the scotch salmon benedict special, the 3 egg omelet special, and I and my bride ordered the perch dinner. I want to reemphasize the restaurant in my humble opinion is one of the best I have ever dined in the seafood choices and really fantastic wine list and again the surroundings! Heres is where the wheels fell off the cart, got our drinks very slowly, then we had to wait about an hour to get the oysters. Then when we ordered our second round hitting about 2 hours after being seated the waiter spills his full drink tray all over my son and myself along with half the table! So he and the wait staff run to try and get us and the table dry so we can hopefully eat. No apology, my shorts and shoes and socks are full of some kind of drink and he says nothing! I assume he is going to get a manager to speak with us and apologize, comp our meal perhaps comp a drink, nothing! Our meal show up 30 minutes later, again no apology nothing. We have to take the kids to the airport and now we are running about 3 hours. The waiter has disappeared, I put my credit card down on the table, he shows up snatches it without letting me see the check? I assume he wants to surprise me with how they will accommodate us for ruining our family luncheon. Well guess what! No apology, No comp of anything, we spent over 300.00(w/o tip) and got a shower of liquor we did not request and were in the restaurant for over three hours! Funny a restaurant with such a great reputation should have manager check on the patrons every 20 minutes or at least after their meals have been delivered, absent manager not a good way to run a great eating establishment. Was I disappointed in all we had to endure? You bet I was!, but I have to say if you can put up with what you have to endure.............................................
All our meals were excellent, would I recommend this restaurant, yes but I would go there as if I were going to a Gallagher show next time............

It was excellent food, excellent service, excellent atmosphere, but not for $350 for three people. I'll have fun explaining that one on my expense report.

I had the "special". Cod or butter fish the night I went. Cooked wonderfully. Paired wonderfully with pork belly pieces i think in a wonder sauce. Tasted awesome and ate every bit. My co-workers had scallops and the other had a "special" again of prime cut piece of meat. Both said cooked perfectly.

I just think for the location, caliber, and what we all got it was about 15% over priced. The restaurant had an old school vibe going on for me which I prefer.

I will say the guy who helped us that night carl, I think went above and beyond. Fantastic. The young girls at the front desk as hostesses could learn a few skills from him.

It was however the best fish I have had in a restaurant in a very long time.

I hadn't been to Joe Muer Seafood since the days that this Detroit institution was located in its old home on Gratiot. The new location, in the RenCen on the Detroit river makes for a wonderful setting for a fantastic dinner. Both the service and the food is exactly what you will expect from a high-end establishment. My companions enjoyed the surf and turf - scallops and short ribs, which they reported were fantastic. I had a vegetarian grilled vegetable pasta (available by request), which was also fantastic. Although they're known for their coconut cake, we chose the creme brulee, which was as great as you would expect, especially when pried with a cup of their fresh brewed coffee. All-in-all we had a wonderful evening. Joe Muer Seafood, is a great choice for a formal dining experience if you're in the area.
