“Great views, but you might just get lost...”
Reviewed August 8, 2011

This is truly a lovely hotel with wonderful views of the city and Canada. The place was so expansive, that it was difficult to navigate around even though there were signs available at times. Many of the shops and food court were not open....we went on a weekend. Coach Insignia was a great place to have a meal at the bar. Maid service was a little bit lacking. Never had new soap, and also forgot to give us water once. Saturday it was almost 5pm before they got to our room. Good place for a convention, which we attended.

Room Tip: Request a high level floor for the best view.

We stayed for a wedding. The location was prime and the views from the 53 floor were spectacular!! The rooms were what you expect from a Marriott with a bit of an old money feel. If you are looking for a neat place to stay in the heart of Detroit this is it!

One of the reasons we came to Detroit was because our son wanted to stay in this high rise hotel in GM headquarters.

Unfortunately, we found the hotel to have drab rooms and the worst part was its lack of cleanliness. The hallways had debris like spent sunflower seeds and food particles. We had to change rooms because of the loud buzzing of the fluorescent lights in the bathroom.

Good parts of the hotel were the lively Volt bar and the view of the water.

Ps. We told management about our concerns about cleanliness and the noisy light and they apologized, but didn't seem too surprised by our complaints.

First, there is no free parking around the Renaissance center so you either have to park in an adjacent parking garage $10-$20 a day or you can use their valet parking for $25 a day. We chose the valet parking because it was convenient and you can come and go as you please without worrying about paying/entering/leaving the parking garages (although you feel obligated to tip a couple bucks). We stayed in a junior suite on the 63rd floor and had an awesome view overlooking downtown Detroit. The room was clean and updated. The bed was one of the better mattresses I've slept on at a hotel. The only negative I would add is that there is no free internet and it costs $12 a day, which seems crazy to me.

I've never been to downtown Detroit and I wasn't expecting much and I was pleasantly surprised. The Renaissance center is really nice. They have plenty of things to look at with several shops and a central GM car show room. There is a food court and a few relatively upscale restaurants to chose from. There is also a movie theater. The facility is overlooking the Detroit river directly across from the Caesars Windsor with a very nice riverfront park area. It is connected to the People mover which has many stops around the center of downtown, so you don't necessarily need a car/ cab to get around (0.50 per ride and we felt safe). I recommend going to Greek town, which has several good restaurants and things to see. We ate at Fishbones, Pizza Papalis and Five Guys and all were great.

I've stayed at the Marriott Renaissance Center every time I visit Michigan and the service is outstanding. Everyone is so friendly! And, if you're a Marriott Rewards gold member - you have to check out the executive club. Fantastic view.
You can take the people mover to Greek Town and the Casino's. Its both safe and inexpensive.

We stayed here three nights and it was wonderful. Even though the best part is the view with floor-to-ceiling windows, the bed and linens were incredibly comfortable. The room was laid out nicely with a comfortable work area and another lounging area both overlooking the city. Very clean and fresh with nice toiletries. This hotel has 70 floors and the higher up the better. We were on the 65th floor. The front desk people were extremely courteous and helpful. It is part of the RenCen and is right on the Detroit River. You are able to stroll along the Riverwalk and hop on the People Mover. It is just under a mile to walk to both Comerica Park and Ford Field. It's even closer to the Greektown area. Forget about what you have heard about Detroit. It is very safe in this area and is a great place to go to. The worst part is the 12.95 per day internet charge. There is no discount for multiple days. It does work very well, though.

Room Tip: Government rate on this property is only 95.00 if you qualify.
