“Nice Greektown Alternative”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2013

We like to patronize downtown restaraunts after the International Auto Show every year. After a disappointing dinner at Old Parthenon last year, we opted for pulled pork. I liked Red Smoke from the minute I walked in. Not a big place but very nice and inviting. Modern decor and super friendly staff. We were told a fifteen minute wait and didn't even wait five. Wait staff very friendly and the local Michigan beers do not disappoint. Very reasonable prices. Had the pulled pork sandwich and Andouille sausage soup. The pork is well seasoned and tender and the soup was fantastic! The entrees and combos were a bit pricey in my opininon but I'm sure worth every penny compared to what we ate, everything was delicious down to the mac and cheese! I love Slow's but this was much more convenient being right in Greektown. The variety of sauces was wonderful and the flavors spot-on. I highly recommend this restaraunt when you are visiting downtown Detroit and looking for some good bbq!

Best pulled pork in detroit hand's down. the sauces are great and the pulled pork is some of the best around. if you are a brisket fan i'd try slow's. would give it 5 stars but a little pricey for que.

“Good alternative to Slow's”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2013 via mobile

I have eaten here twice now with companions that have also been to Slow's many times. Red Smoke is very good, competitively priced and you avoid the difficult parking and long lines at Slow's.

Both visits I've had the pulled pork sandwich which is my go to BBQ choice. It comes with a side of cole slaw, on your choice of bun or Texas Toast and you can add any of their five sauces all for $8.99. Slow's sandwich comes with a sauce I don't like already on it so I have to ask for it plain and their Texas Toast has gotten thinner over the years. Red Smoke has sides that are big enough to share.

If you are a beer afisando, Slow's wins that race.

Red Smoke takes Greektown casino comp points so that's an added bonus.

This is a terrific modern restaurant. Great open-space decor and the food is exceptional! A trndy, upscale approach to slow cooked bar-b-q.
