The Art Deco beauty of this building is indescribable. Going inside this building is to take a glimpse back in time when Detroit truly was a beautiful, wealthy, vibrant city full of life and full of people.

We have lived in suburban Detroit for 6 years, and I have eaten dinner at several downtown restaurants, but have not done any sightseeing. We went on a local tour on a Saturday featuring recent changes in Detroit, and had a chance to tour this buildling. It is a unique landmark and well worth visiting. The Guardian Building is located one block from the Detroit River. It was built in 1928 and no expense was spared. Originally it belonged to Union Trust Bank. The lobby is amazing, with a combination of art deco, with Aztec themes and mosaic, Pewabic, and Rookwood tiles. There is a beautiful mural of Michigan (excluding the UP) that displays many themes of Michigan's history, and a beautiful Tiffany clock. We were given an abbreviated tour, but our guide told us that he gives free tours at 11 am and 2 pm on Saturday--I strongly recommend an official tour of the building.

Incredible building. It was built in the late 20's right before the Great Depression. The marble, tile, and Tiffany wall clocks are worth the stop by. Be certain to look up and around. There is so much to see. You should able to see what you need in about 30 minutes.

There is a great little store with Detroit products as well as an Illy Coffee Shop.
