We are experienced museum go-ers and the displays in this museum are unique, powerful and not to be missed. In addition to art and educational displays, there are many hands-on displays from the Civil Rights era. The life-sized display of the transAtlantic slave crossings will make you catch your breath with an almost real-life horror of the experience. If we had any complaints it is that tour guides are few and far between. The one that we encountered was very informed - just not enough of them. Wonderful gift shop! We ticked several grandchildren's Christmas gifts off our list!!

The African American Museum is definitely a must see for the city of Detroit. My last visit was April 2013 and my favorite exhibit was in honor of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Celebrating 100 Years! There is so much to see, to learn and be inspired by at this museum.

Wonderful experience! Appeals to all age groups. Attractive, informative, interactive. Visited with my sister and cousin. Got there late with only an hour and 15 minutes to visit. Going back next week and bringing my adult children and grandchildren with me. More of the family may tag along after our visit in Toledo, Ohio. Wish we had something this grand in Buffalo, New York. The museum is FANTASTIC!

If you want to know anything about African Americans this is the place to go. The museum is very modern and I love the way it is displayed. The staff is excellent and very exciting. I will visit this museum again, again and again. Outstanding place in Detroit to visit.

My husband and I were married at the Charles H. Wright Museum in August, 2011. The wedding ceremony was in the Ford theatre and the reception was in the rotunda. Everything was beautiful and our guests seemed to really enjoy the museum. As part of the wedding package the guests took a guided tour of the museum while waiting to transition from the wedding ceremony to the reception. Everyone enjoyed that addition to the traditional cocktail hour. There was a torential downpour an hour or so before ceremony time so we were really glad we decided to do the entire wedding indoors, and this venue was an interesting, yet open feeling space. The museum background also makes for great pictures for wedding party and guests.
We were very pleased with the entire day, and would highly recommend the CHWMAAH to others.
