“Great yacht moorings and a touch of Paradise”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 5, 2014

Although we did not stay at the lodge we moored our boat in front of the lodge for a week. Mike the owner of the lodge was very accommodating as well as all of his staff. It is a lovely lodge on a small beautiful island with crystal clear water. The grounds were very clean as well as the restaurant bar area. If you are on a boat you can use the bar and eat there anytime. You just need to give Mike a few hours notice if you are planning to come and eat. The food was good and reasonable for being so far from the mainland. While we were there we went scuba diving with the lodges dive master. They have good new rental equipment and Jason the dive mater was very patient and helpful. It was a little more expensive than diving in Roatan but we enjoyed the experience much more than we did at the dive places on Roatan. We enjoyed the lodge and island so much we are planning on going back in a week or so.

If you are arriving on a boat you can take anyone of the mooring buoys that are in the harbor in front of the lodge. The moorings are in very good shape. Just a word of caution if you are on a mooring and a guy named Hank says it is his private mooring please just ignore him and please do not move. park Ranger and lodge personnel told us there are no private moorings at Cayos Cochino and they are all first come first serve.

Enjoy paradise and say hello to Mike and Jason. M/V JASDIP

I had an excellent time at Turtle Bay! The team running the resort is friendly, professional and knowledgable! They accommodated my dairy allergy seamlessly and the food was so healthy and delicious.
I had the most amazing time diving in Cayos. The terrain is beautiful, there are fantastic soft corals, caves and the vis is amazing. I never once questioned the ability or knowledge of any of the divemasters and felt fully comfortable and impressed with their professional dive organization. I haven't been diving on a boat with more than just a few other guests on it in years and if that's an ethic of yours, Turtle bay won't disappoint.
I was also surprised and delighted that in our lovely cottage/cabins there was hot water in the natural stone showers! The cabins were spacious, decorated with lovely local hard woods, super clean and I really enjoyed having a large comfortable king bed!
Overall, I could not want for any better of a new years week and when I decide to get my master cert I will no doubt come back to Turtle Bay to learn from their team of lovely instructors! Thanks to Mike, Courtney, Jason, Clement, Arielle, Allyee, Rebecca and the rest of the amazing team for making my stay so wonderful!

Room Tip: I had the Tiburon room which was at the top of the hill. If you don't fancy a small hike then a...

Cayos Cochinos is a little piece of paradise and if that alone isn’t enough to convince you the Turtle Bay Eco Resort certainly should be. From first contact by email, to waving you off at the dock when you leave, Mike and his staff couldn’t try harder to make sure your time on the island is perfect. Friendly, helpful, up-front and personal the consistent service throughout really makes the Turtle Bay experience. The cabins are nicely furnished, clean with comfortable beds, hot showers, outside space and some with ocean views. The food is good, varied and reasonably priced served in the communal bar/restaurant where you can hang out with the other guests and staff or sit outside on the patio watching the sunset over the sea.
If you dive already then the reefs here will be a real treat for you. If like us you don’t then you will find an excellent introduction with personal, careful, patient and safe tuition followed by incredible experience where you are truly looked after taking your first breaths under the sea. Turtle Bay isn’t only for divers though, the snorkeling is just as good, you can hang out on the beach just enjoying the peace and tranquility or take a hike through the jungle guided by the resident dogs.
A stay on the Cayos is truly fantastic, do yourself a favour and go there, soon!

Combined a secluded, charming island getaway with a professional dive shop to create the exact experience we were looking for - off-the-beaten-track and private, yet a social and fun scene at night when we were keen for a drink. Whilst the accommodation is reasonably basic, each cabin has its own private setting a short walk up the hill, its own bathroom, was clean, large and and has an incredible view through the canopy to the ocean and island across the channel. The resort staff and divemasters were extremely professional and diligent with the reef's protected status. In addition the distance from Roatan and the coast meant we had all the dive sites to ourselves. Finally Mike Wall, the manager, was the consummate host. If I go back to Honduras, 5-6 days at Turtle Bay will be on the itinerary.

My husband and I found Turtle Bay Eco Resort when looking for an island in Honduras that wasn't as dive-crazy as Roatan or Utila. We weren't divers, but we wanted to experience Honduras on our honeymoon. Turtle Bay Eco Resort fit the bill with their offerings, location, and pricing. Nothing else could compare.

Our decision could not have been better. From day one of our trip, Mike and his team catered to our every need, and then some. We were created with a wonderful rum cocktail and a bottle of champagne as a wedding gift! It was so thoughtful and we knew it was a sign of a wonderful two weeks ahead of us.

Throughout our two weeks we snorkeled, earned our scuba certification (thanks to our dive master/sensei, Clement!), kayaked, sunbathed, took various excursions, hiked, slept, and met some pretty incredible people in the process. By the end of our trip, we felt we were leaving dear friends rather than resort staff. Everyone was kind, considerate, thoughtful, and wonderfully attentive. It was the perfect balance of service, hospitality, and friendship.

The resort was idyllic, truly. Mike has renovated the bar/restaurant, dock, lounge areas, and rooms to create a first class eco resort that is attentive and sensitive to the environment and the beauty surrounding the island. It's inspiring what they do on a daily basis.

The resort is isolated and without any utilities, stores, or similar comforts available on the mainland. Keep this in mind when planning your trip. That being said, Mike and his team will do their very best to accommodate your every request. It's remarkable, really. They are dedicated to creating your perfect vacation, and they excel at doing so. A bottle of decaffeinated instant coffee was procured like magic one morning. The resort chefs were incredible, as well. I hadn't thought to let them know in advance that I am a vegan, not realizing they boat in their food as it is available and needed. Regardless, they didn't skip a beat and created incredible and amazing meals tailored to my diet: cauliflower crust pizza (to die for), vegan tomato basil soup in a vegan bread bowl, paella, vegetable stir-fry, wraps, and oodles and oodles of fresh fruit of many varieties. Their accommodations of my diet were incredible and more than appreciated.

The dive teams were wonderful, helpful, and obviously thrilled to be a part of such an amazing resort. They knew the details of every dive and conveyed them with ease. They were helpful for us knew and less experienced divers. And they had as much fun as we did, which can really make a difference.

Our heads are still swirling with the experience and we find ourselves pining for the resort throughout the day. This review really does not do the resort justice; it's an amazing experience with inspiring people, life changing moments, and memories that can't be beat. We look forward to coming back as soon as we can!

Just returned from a unique but neat trip to Turtle Bay. Getting there was a little bit of a challenge as my flight was delayed a day combined with a van ride and a boat trip to Cayos Cochinos but well worth it once I got there. GREAT dive operation and the reefs are pristine (it's a nature preserve after all) with lots of fish plus a big variety of them. Dive Masters were very knoweldgeable and knew all the nooks and crannies to see a lobster, etc. Rooms were spacious and well appointed and cooled with a ceiling fan (there's no A/C but you don't needt with the ocean breeze at night). Food was very good and plentiful with fresh seafood for dinner every night if you so desire. Hiking to the island Lighthouse is somewhat of a challenge but well worth the trip - took a little over an hour in total. Staff were very cordial and treat you like an old friend as soon as you arrive along with the resident canine mascots of Kona, Tuna, and Diesel. It's geared for divers but go if you are not certified - they are a PADI resort and are perfecly set up to get you in the water and introduced to scuba diving. But if Scua is not your thing then the snorkeling is awesome on the house reef. Or if you just want to relax and read, then you are definitely out there - no TV, basic Internet (check e-mail and some surfing but no video streaming allowed) and you can get cell service from the mainland (one bar on my iPhone) if you desperately need to call home. But don't - just sit back anc chill while you're there.

Room Tip: Allow 8 days for a 7 day trip as you likely will overnight in La Ceiba before taking a boat ride to...

I loved every moment of my stay at turtle bay. I was traveling alone over Christmas and everyone made me feel like a part of the family... A cool, fun family! The diving was fantastic. My little casita was perfect. The dogs, Kona and Tuna fish and little Diesel, are the best. And I had two of my top ten naps of my life here! Thank you Mike, Courtney, Arielle, Rebecca, Clemente, Allie, Jason, Danny!!
