We originally booked to stay at the Henry Ford Collection in Dearborn, however due to their ongoing renovations we were moved to the Dearborn Inn. I was a little concerned about the last minute hotel change as we were only notified about a week before we were due to travel, however there was no need to be concerned as the hotel was lovely.
We had gotten a good deal online to have a suite at the Henry Ford and this was honoured at the Dearborn Inn with a huge suite and access to the lounge which included complimentary breakfast, afternoon tea and desserts.
The boys at check in were welcoming and friendly and checking in was really easy. The hotel has more than adequate complimentary onsite parking and a large welcoming entrance which is still designed in the old style. The hotel has some interesting history. Located right near the Ford proving ground, it was originally built as a hotel by Henry Ford himself.
I have to say our suite is the biggest room I have ever stayed in. It was so large you could almost do cartwheels across it.
Breakfast was great with a lot of fresh fruit and cereals as well as a hot item if you liked. The staff were friendly and offered up advice of the best places to visit and shop. The hotel has a nice restaurant and also a bar. We had dinner in the bar one night and again the service was good, food tasty and reasonably priced. The pizza breads were a creative addition for a starter and very nice!
Internet is available in your room for a fee but free WIFI is available in the lobby and business centre where there are many lovely seats to sit around and lounge in so you have no trouble checking emails if needed.
The hotel is not really located near anything so if you stay it is advisable that you have a car. However the hotel does offer car rental and is close to the airport. One disadvantage for us was that all of the places and people we’d come to see were over the other side of Michigan. Normally this would not be a problem but the M39 is currently closed for road works so detours added about 20-30 minutes on most of our journeys and usually through the less savoury parts of town.
Our tip if you stay here (as it is for anywhere) is; get a good internet deal. Our friend also booked for the same dates and it cost him the same for a standard room without breakfast as it did us for a suite. The standard room rate seemed quite expensive for the location and room size. This hotel with the bigger rooms, expansive grounds and a pool and gym would also be good for families.
