“Excellent factory tour- well worthwhile with great entertainment value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 29, 2010

This is an excellent factory tour.

If you are visiting The Henry Ford, I recommend you allow a half day for this tour.

It comprises 4 parts:

1. View the historical movie. This tells the story of the Rouge in a remarkably frank manner.

2. The sound and light show, when the manufacture of modern cars is dramatized in an entertaining fashion.

3. A self guided tour of the factory. You can walk around the assembly plant, along elevated walkways. There are several interactive displays as you make the tour.

4. Display of Ford cars from the past.

This is an excellent tour, which is designed to entertain a broad range of people- not just car fanatics.

Both the factory and the visitor facilities are modern and highly professional.

Highly recommended

“Very cool!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 2, 2008

If you have a child with sensory integration issues this may not be a great place. My husband, myself and one son liked this a lot but, it was very difficult for my 8 year old who has issues with sensory integration. He basically could not get out of there fast enough with the sensory overload. If you don't have a family member with sensory integration, I highly recommend going. My favorite part was watching the factory team building the truck from start to finish. It was really cool.

“Wow - what a great history and what a great advertisement”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 23, 2008

This has some great history, how the drive and ambition of a single man could create such a huge manufacturing complex; but it also has a lot of modern day Ford and the commitment to the environment; really made me want to go out and buy a Ford.

“An inside look at Auto Manufacturing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 8, 2007

What shocked me was how clean and quiet the whole assembly process was. The elevated walkways let us see the assembly process, but kept me from worrying about being in the way or in dangerous territory. The green roof was also a favorite of mine. Great piece of American history and economy.

“Ford Rouge Factory Tour”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 26, 2006

The Ford Rouge Factory Tour is offered from the Henry Ford, which includes Greenfield Village and Henry Ford Museum. The tour itself is very interesting and I recommend it with the following warnings. The real star of the show is the factory part of the tour (which also includes 2 movies and a tour of the observation deck to see the environmental initiatives at the Rouge). The problem is the factory shuts down at various times but the tour of the factory continues- so you don't see any workers- just a factory with trucks suspended in mid-air. The factory is shut for the first 2 weeks in July, the day after Thanksgiving, the week between X-mas and New Years. Its also shut on weekends. No work is performed during 2 breaks a day (lasting about 20 minutes) or the 30 minute lunch at 11:30 am. Works stops at shift change for an hour (generally at 2:30 pm). To be able to see the factory and avoid breaks, lunch and shift change, try to get there as early as possible. Take the 9:30 or 10 am bus. If you can't do that, take any bus between 11 am and 1 pm. If you take a bus after 1 pm you are likely to run into shift change, which means you might have to wait an hour until the workers come back. Before you buy your tickets, verify that the factory is up and running.
