I love this hotel. It has an old fashioned feel which includes the friendly and personal service. It is half board- breakfasts are excellent and set you up for walking and fresh air. The evening meals are 3 courses of good home cooking rather than haute cuisine but hit the spot after a day on the fells. Real milk is left out for early morning tea rather than plastic milk!
There is a small bar and a comfortable lounge with fire. Guests (and sometimes staff) will sit and chat, thinking about what to do tomorrow etc. In the past I have got myself invited to go walking with other guests when I was there alone. Many guests are regulars and return year after year (I have now stayed 3 times).
Muddy boots and dogs (perhaps not too muddy!) are welcome, there is a drying room.
This is a peaceful and friendly hotel and I recommend it.
