We stayed for 3 nights and found the hotel to be really quiet even though every room was booked up (a blessing if you are light sleeper). The staff were friendly and attentive, catering for our special breakfast requirements. Also, the sun shone for the three days we were there, perfect.

We booked the Scafell Hotel after being let down by a nearby hotel. The long weekend with friends had been planned for some time. The hotel is clean and functional and the staff friendly. The food was good, if a little pretentious. The Riverside Bar is a strange addition to the hotel and was not used apart from having to one afternoon when the hotel bar was shut! Overall the hotel is a little overpriced compared with other hotels in the area. Very surprised at no designated/reserved disabled parking. On the weekend we were there the 10 in 10 event had the hotel as its base - no prior notice of this. On the Saturday night the parking was horrendous with no spaces reserved for residents and the outside tables completely taken over by non-residents. Unfortunately we won't be considering the Scafell Hotel on our next trip to the Lakes

This was a nice place to stay but probably a bit overpriced. We ate in the restaurant one night and while the food was very good, it is either eat 4 courses or one - either way, it would still be 45 pounds. This was a shame as an al a carte might be more appealing to the majority. There is a pub attached which does serve good pub food.

Staff we're very friendly, hotel was okay but would not stay here at price we paid, 120 pounds per night for b/b. At this cost, we felt it was overpriced. We would stay here again at different rate though.

Good points excellent location and if was just on location would rate hotel excellent but all things considered can only rate this hotel as average. The double in the annex was modern although a little on small side but the very small bath was a disappointment could not even sit in it and stretch my legs yes I am 6’2 but the whole point of a bath is that you want to be able to lie down fully in it after a long walk on the fells! Found the hotel a little disjointed as you could only access the Riverside bar from outside not from hotel but had a bit of atmosphere although the outside seating pokey so you have to walk round to front of hotel with your drink if wanting to sit outside but the grounds are lovely. The food however I found to be bland and tasteless and was expecting much better. The sleep quality in double was fine but be careful of the single room in the annex actually of a good size and full length bath but directly next to front door which I was told about but I did not expect to be woken up by people coming in and out all hours and when finally falling asleep was woken up at 1.30am. I mentioned it to reception next day and and I asked for move to a double but was a little disappointed by the price £90 especially after a rough night. Breakfast was better than food in the bar but found the massive dangerously hot plates with a single portion of everything a little sterile especially the one small rasher of bacon and first morning went in at 8am and waited the longest time ever for breakfast but did hear the girl on duty saying only one chef on next day went in at about 8.45am and service quicker but still a fairly long wait. So fantastic location and would have rated higher if the bar food better and they sort those little niggles out like ridiculously small baths in annex, sort the long waits for breakfast and increase the bacon rashers! I also felt I could have been offered a cheaper deal on the double single occupancy after a rough night in the single room. Would I stay there again probably but not until I have tried other accommodation in the area as don’t think you can put a price on good food.

Room Tip: Avoid the single in annex if you are a light sleeper heavy door latch very noisy.

We went to the Riverside bar, attached the to the hotel, for pub grub after a walk. It was superb! Very hearty well prepared food at good prices. The garden is very small but overlooks the river which is very relaxing and serene. So much so that we saw a red squirrel!
The atmosphere in the pub is exactly as you would expect from a country pub-warming, friendly and welcoming.
An absolute must if you are in the area.

We stayed here on a very special coast to coast trip and the Scafell hotel made our stay very memorable. We are getting married whilst walking coast to coast and we were greeted with a lovely welcome from Katie, we had an amazing room (14) with a comfortable bed and an amazing jacuzzi bath. The owner and one of the directors came over to give their best wishes which we thought was lovely and we were even given a nice bottle of fizz! We ate in the riverside bar and the real ale was very good too!
We will definitely return.

I'm sad to give this hotel such a poor rating because food was good and most of the staff were very pleasant. However, TripAdvisor has been so useful to me over the years that it would be unfair not to warn others of our very bad experience.
The problem was the terrible smell of sewage that came from the drains. It wasn't so noticeable at first because the staff had cleverly left the plugs in the sinks so the room just smelled musty and stale. Soon be fixed by opening the windows I thought. I was very wrong!
Unaware of the problem we used the facilities as normal and went to dinner. During the night the stench was overwhelming and I ended up spraying perfume all over the room and bed just to disguise it so I could sleep.
We were unable to leave the hotel because on booking we were informed that cancellation was not an option as we had to pay in advance.
In order to make the second night more pleasant we filled the sinks with water and plugged the bath with towels to stop the smell escaping. Not perfect but an improvement so, along with a lot more perfume spraying, we made the second night more tolerable.
We stayed in room 17 so check in advance if you expect civilised conditions during your stay. We were very glad to leave. When we complained as we checked out it was obvious that the receptionist was not surprised. He made no comment - not even to apologise.
Bad form at any price but it wasn't a cheap hotel. We won't be going back!

Room Tip: I don't know about the others but there are lots of good reviews. However, don't choose room...
