We had a lovely stay at the Scafell Hotel, Borrowdale in August 2012. A regular visitor to the English Lake District, I had wanted to stay at the Scafell Hotel and when I did stay, I was not disappointed. The whole experience from booking, check-in, delightful room with views, breakfast to check-out was excellent. I will certainly be returning to saviour the delights of this very scenic area and the Scafell Hotel.

Room Tip: Treat yourself to a room with a view.

A lovely weekend at this really charming hotel. The sun was shining, the gardens looked beautiful with daffodils peppering the green lawns and fellow guests enjoying their drinks al fresco. Our room was smashing, with a stylish ensuite and a view over the River Derwent behind the hotel and a beautiful panorama up into the Honister Valley. We had a gentle walk through the village and into the stunning countryside beyond before getting ready for our 5 course evening meal in the hotel's restaurant. Well, the food is just superb. Lovingly prepared to the highest standard, cleverly presented and served by helpful, charming staff who obviously know and love what they are doing. A coffee and mints in the lounge rounded off a lovely day. The bed was very comfy and the sound of the gentle babbling of the river through our open window sent us off in no time. Breakfast was delicious and set us up for a drive through the Honister Valley - breathtaking - and then back round to explore the charming town of Keswick before driving down the side of the magnificent Derwent Water for a half hour in front of the log fire in the lounge with the Sunday papers and then in for a delicious Sunday lunch - that's how beef and Yorkshire puds should taste - we can't wait to go back for another break and feel the weight of modern life being lifted from our shoulders once again - thanks to all the Scafell team - you should be very proud!!

This is a great hotel if you want a short break in the Lake District. It is a very good three star. Stayed there to do some walking and wasn't disappointed. Met by helpful staff at check -in. The room was extremely clean and spacious with a brilliant bathroom. Warm towelrail, loads of hot water in the showers-Just what you need after a days walking. The breakfast was of a good quality and lots of choice. I didn't eat in the hotel but in the bar next door which has a good selection for all. Lots of different ales and drinks to refresh and a calm atmosphere.

Superbly situated in one of England's most beautiful valleys. The hotel has loads of car parking and good sizes gardens. The rooms are well decorated and appointed with a flat screen tv and tea/coffee. Superb bar/lounges with real fires. Dining is first class with very friendly staff everywhere and excellent reception. About 25 rooms so not too big and met very amicable clientele. Stayed 4 nights and enjoyed trips to Keswick and Penrith. Definitely go back again.

My husband and I booked a spur of the moment break in the lakes but we couldn't have chosen better. From the moment we walked in the hotel we were made to feel welcome. The room was tastefully decorated and the bathroom lovely and modern. The Riverside bar was really busy so we ate in the restaurant. The staff were a delight - friendly and helpful. Breakfast was superb with plenty of choice and ample servings.
Scafell is an efficiently run hotel and would thoroughly reccommend.
