If you are looking for a place to stay within 100 miles of Curtis, MI, you would be hard pressed to find a better place to stay. Though it calls itself a bed and breakfast, I think of it as more of a traditional roadhouse. It has a working restaurant with very good food (I had the curry chicken over pasta/vegetables), a lounge area, with the bedrooms upstairs above the dining room/lounge. Most rooms have private baths though ours didn't, which was fine. The property itself is located on the shores of a lake and was once a railroad hotel. It features a wonderful deck, complete with chairs and tables to enjoy a drink from the lounge. Really, you can't go wrong with this place as long as you understand that it is a restaurant too. I was a little worried that the place would be noisy, but the musician and the lounge shut down by 11 PM, so that wasn't an issue. Though we were hiking in the Grand Marais area, we stayed in Curtis because of this place. Given what the mom and pop places charge, it's worth a few extra dollars to stay in a place like this. The owner/staff was courteous. Breakfast was included in the room cost and was great. We'll be going back.
