We stayed two nights. The location is great. The breakfasts were generous and the coffee was outstanding. The log lodge has great potential but is far too cluttered with antiques. The large living room could accommodate all of the guests but because of the clutter of collectables there is not enough room for everyone to sit!! Fall is a challenge with flies, so screens on the doors to the decks/balconies would be nice - allowing fresh air and limiting the flies in the rooms. Our friends had to by fly spray to control the flies in their room! Abe goes out of his way to accommodate the guests even calling to make your dinner reservations for you.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 2nd floor to avoid being disturbed with people walking above you. However, the...

When we arrived at the Dapple-Gray we were taken aback by the enormity of the lodge and it's grand position overlooking the beautiful Lake Superior. The grounds were equally as impressive, with our host outside pruning her roses when we arrived.
Inside, guests are treated to a museum of antiques - each piece identified by its era and a brief description.
We stayed in the Lincoln Room - what a great display of the innkeeper's collection of Lincoln-era furniture and artifacts. The room has a scenic view of the lake, and steps out to the large-scale porch. The room, with private bath was elegant and clean. Before we retired, we relaxed in the outdoor sauna.
Besides our appreciation for such friendly and welcoming hosts, we also thoroughly enjoyed "George Washington," the inn's English Bulldog.
Breakfast was a fabulous assortment of local foods including the signature thickle jam, and served family-style, so we had a great conversation with other travelers.
I would recommend a stay at the Dapple-Gray, named for the horse in the foyer, that once sat in the window of the innkeeper's antique shop.

Planned on spending one night at Dapple Grey but did spend two-a cancellation which worked for everyone. The location is superb, the rooms are very clean and comfortable. And then there are the breakfasts prepared by Ruth & Ole-outstanding! Afternoon wine on the balcony overlooking Lake Superior is a real treat. We wanted to see the area my wife's grandmother and her great-grandfather (a copper miner) settled after immigrating from Finland. This was a great place to explore the Keweenaw peninsula.

We had great time enjoying the view from our balcony. Our room was extra clean. Ruth served great breakfast both mornings we were there. Ole, Ruth and their son Abe were very helpful always asking if there was anything they could help us with. Our first experience was great and would stay again.

Copper Harbor isn't for everyone, but we love it! The Dapple-Gray is a fantastic B&B located across Hy26 from Lake Superior. You can hear the wave action on the rocks from the 4 rooms. We've stayed there twice and had wonderful experiences both time. The hosts, Ole, Ruth and their son Abe run a wonderful place. It doubles as an antique store. Each room as access to the front porch. If you are lucky you will see a Laker traversing Lake Superior just off shore; if the weather is good, you can sit on the porch having an adult beverage and smoking a cigar.. The breakfast was superb and they accomadated my wife's GF needs. Quiet, beautiful surroundings, wonderful hosts; relaxing doens't get any better. I look forward to our next visit. BTW, the Dapple-Gray is pet friendly and if you don't bring your own dog, you can make friends with "George".

Room Tip: All rooms face the Lake.

On our way to Isle Royale National Park we stayed with the gracious hosts at the Dapple-Grey B & B. The immediate impression as we pulled into the driveway was "Wow!". Obviously, a lot of thought and expense went into the building of this magnificent combination B & B/antique store. The opulence of the structure in size and creature comforts is complimented by the strength of its design. It could easily be built to withstand the most severe weather situation, yet has a lovely vegetable and decorative garden on one side and the dramatic coastline of Lake Superior abutting the other. To call this a lovely log home is to understate the size and substantiality of the structure. It is formidable from the exterior, and yet cozy and most comfortable inside. Our hosts could not be nicer, nor more welcoming. We were treated like family rather than overnight guests, and spent much of our time in the kitchen, talking. And Ollie makes a superb breakfast! The entire complex of sitting rooms and viewing decks provide an atmosphere that reminds me of the Fairmont Hotel & Resort on Lake Louise, in Alberta. As this was the first time I have visited the Keweenaw Peninsula, the experience was particularly rewarding and I dare say that we will return again and again.
