Description: There is a doughnut shop and bakery in Clare, Michigan that has been in constant operation since 1896. This foundation business was within weeks of closing when the members of the Clare Police Department came to the rescue. All of them. That's right, all nine members of the local police department banded together to save this historic business.Dubbed "Cops and Doughnuts," the business boasts handmade confections of all types. Join us for a warm fresh doughnut and a steaming cup of Cops Coffee while you enjoy the police decor and friendly, and very safe, atmosphere. Come and see the new store in Clare that everyone is talking about.Since opening as Cops & Doughnuts our business has expanded in to other adjoining store fronts allowing us to ad the "Cop Shop" our apparel and souvenir shop. And the "Traffic Stop Diner" featuring many American Diner favorites.

After seeing billboards and listening to commercials for the last couple of years, we got to Clare to see the bakery. We were very surprised that it also served food. As we had just had lunch with friends, we were looking for something sweet. There was a large varied selection. After a few minutes of drooling, we made our selection and headed home. We didn't try them until the next morning and boy were they good. There was plenty of filling and I'm sure few calories. We will be sure to detour through Clare to revisit Cops and Doughnuts again.

Everyone traveling US 127 north or south should swing into downtown Clare and stop at Cops and Donuts. Fantastic stop on the way south. Had lunch there--fantastic food. Had a donut--even more fantastic. The next day while traveling north, stopped again. Had an omelet--very good. Took some cookies home--wow, make that a double WOW. Instead of stopping at the rest stop just north of Clare, take the Clare downtown exit and visit Cops and Donuts. It is own by 7 real life cops. Even talked to one of them. It has an interesting history and very tasty sweet treats. If you like sweets and are curious about history, stop in and enjoy the law enforcement. The rest rooms have a jail motif.

We just stopped because of the sign. They have so many to choose! Cherry doughnuts, long john, apple fritter, and peanut butter cookie were all good. They were the freshest I ever had at a bakery and it was at 4:00 in the afternoon! Plus read the history brochure. So happy the cops saved the place and good for them and their families for doing so well!

Cops and Doughnuts Bakery is a fun stop with more doughnut choices than anyone can imagine. We had doughnuts with our granddaughter prior to the St. Patrick's Day parade and it was a wonderful way to begin the day.

This is a novel business in my home town. The donuts are excellent and there is a great variety to be had. It is not unusual for current or former Clare City Police officers to be in the bakery since a number of them purchased the business when it was about to go out of business after close to a century. They have a decent food menu and sell crafts, etc from locals. A must-visit if you find yourself in mid-Michigan.
