“It is always a treat to eat here!”
Reviewed October 24, 2012

We stopped by after a Michigan game to have a great finish to the day. We sat at the bar and had excellent service and food. The perch was dynamite as was everything we each had. Wish it was closer to home so we could go more often and on a night other than Saturday. It's worth the wait.

“Nothing Common about the food”
Reviewed October 22, 2012

Fish is outstanding. They have a large menu and will fix the fish any way you want it prepared. The specials are exceptionally good.

“Excellent food!”
Reviewed October 7, 2012

Stopped in after a play to have dinner. The place was packed (it was Saturday). Once we finally got seated at a table, all was forgiven. The service and food was outstanding , especially considering how insanely busy they were. I can't wait to go back!

“Best restaurant for miles around.”

Awesome food. We go there often. It is our favorite restaurant. My favorite is the Tuscan Pear salad with salmon rather than chicken. No problem making substitutions. Great fresh fish as well.

“Consistently good food and service”
Reviewed October 5, 2012

We live in Ann Arbor, where there are so many restaurants to chose from it's ridiculous, but we often head for Chelsea (a 20 min. drive) just to enjoy a meal at the Common Grill. It's one place that you can always count on the food (especially the fish) being fresh and well prefared. The servers are well-trained and knowledeable about the menu selections/wine and the kitchen can accommodate a fair amount of adjustments to an item if asked. If you want just plain grilled fish without the fancy ingredients and sauce they are happy to do that. The specials are often pretty fancied-up, but usually turn out to be delicious. We ate there this week and one of us had the Parmesan crusted Lake Superior whitefish (always on the menu), another had the Alaskan Halibut, plain, and lastly one chose a special Thai-like rendering of salmon that was very goodl. Desserts can change with the season, and most are wonderful and not too gigantic. The coffee is great too! This can be a really nice, dependable alternative to Ann Arbor fare, especially on football weekends! Lunch menu is equally good and less expensive, but dinner prices are fair for the portions and quality. Reservations on the weekends! And they are not open on Mondays. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of the noise level. Hardscape walls and tin ceiling can make it pretty loud when the restuarant is full. It's not the place for a quiet, intimate meal with a loved one, just really good food every time!
