“Pretty Nice”
Reviewed August 13, 2012

I stayed here with my husband for a family wedding. The lobby is very inviting, and the room was clean and comfortable. There was no fitness facility, but the pool has "adult swim" hours and it was empty at the 7am time I took the plunge. The pool area has a high wooden ceiling with nice large windows. They have balls and noodles for kids to play with. I later found out that there is a bike trail across the street I probably could've used. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be very easy to walk to the downtown area from this hotel. It's quite a ways before you even hit sidewalk for Charlevoix, and even that is at the outskirts.

My aunts stayed there too, and they were happy dogs were allowed (extra fee I think).

There is a guest washer and dryer available that accepts change (something like $1.25 per load per machine).

The included breakfast had a decent variety. There were hard boiled eggs, biscuits (not that great) and gravy, cereals, yogurt, waffles, milk, apples, oranges, peanut butter, and pastries. They even had "Go Gurt" which I had to try since I would never ever actually buy it.

There is an in-room safe (extra $1 fee unless you do something special to waive it... not sure what).

I thought it was a little pricey for what it was, but high prices definitely aren't unusual in these little northern Michigan resort towns and I've experienced much much worse. AmericInn at least was cute and comfortable.

Stayed here while on a motorcoach tour. Our tour group was greeted with hot coffee and home made cookies. Clean rooms, comfortable beds, quiet even though there were several families staying. Good breakfast with both hot and cold items in the morning with an eating area that could accomodate our large group.

Room Tip: This property is outside of town with nothing in walking distance, including restaurants.

A couple more amenities or maybe a little closer to the Charlevoix or a slightly lower price to make up for those 2 shortcomings and I would have given this place an excellent rating (so let's call it a very very good or nearly excellent).

It's newer, clean, and the price is in line with the area. My few interactions with staff were good too. The continental breakfast was alright as well. The pool area was okay and our two year old enjoyed the dip after a day in the bicycle trailer. The sauna was nice for a brief visit though the controls need some attention. Since we were bicycling through the area, I was a little disappointed there was no covered, let alone secure storage for our bicycles. Other places we stayed on the trip either offered locked storage or a covered location to lock them right outside our room. Here we were invited to lock them up uncovered near the lobby, which was at the opposite end of the hotel.

It's close to an excellent place to stay except for the details, no less it is certainly a fine place to stay

This hotel seems to be rather new and located a bit outside the main downtown area which makes it very quiet. The room was very clean, a good size, king size bed and gas fireplace...not needed since it was July! The breakfast is included and was ample for our needs. Waffles, various breads, cereal, pastries, yogurt, boiled eggs. Would stay again.

Found this hotel quite by accident, and I am remorse to write a review for fear this gem will be "discovered". The room (we had one of the king jacuzzi suites with a fireplace) was one of the nicest we have stayed in. The overhaul feel of the hotel is friendly as we stayed for several days, the staff was attentive and VERY nice The breakfast was good, however as my husband and I are newly diagnosed diabetics it was not full of very "diabetic friendly fare", but what was there was very good. The hot tub and pool we basically had to ourselves even though the hotel was pretty booked solid during our stay. We would definately stay there again when we want a get away!

Room Tip: We had to switch rooms on our last night there, and both of the rooms we were in were quiet, clean...

We live on an island offshore from Charlevoix, Michigan and as a consequence we are often in need of a room. The people at the AmericInn have always treated us fairly and kindly! Rooms are clean and neat and their jacuzzi tubs when available are always a nice treat! The "suite" rooms allow you and your travel companion(s) to watch TV in two seperate areas without interference with each other. The hotel sits off the highway enough so that it is very quiet and, in fact, the suite rooms are over the front desk and I have never heard a noise from below. The swimming pool (enclosed) is very nearby and has easy access.

Being only 3-4 miles from town gives one a great feeling of being in the country yet close to downtown Charlevoix and directly across from the Charlevoix Country Club which has a new owner and a new restaraunt called Shanahan's which has some good fare! You can go down to the lobby in the morning (or most any time of day) for a hot cup of coffee. They have 2 or 3 types sitting there. Also their free breakfast area compares to any we have seen up and down throughout the midwest!

They recently redid the beds with pillow tops (I think :-) ) and installed all flat screen TV's and good sized ones at that! All in all the Charlevoix AmericInn is as good a value as you will find in a family hotel and we strongly recommend it!

Stayed here Saturday night over Venetian Nights in Charlevoix. Last room we could find in the area and the price was HIGH! Nice room, nice beds, plenty of hot water and had the pool to myself. Breakfast was good, variety of fruits, pastries, waffles, sausage gravy/ biscuits, yogurt, cereals etc. Staff very friendly and helpful. Would stay again if the price was lower.
