Owner description: Open year round, Castle Farms is one of Northern Michigan's top historic attractions, as well as one of the Midwest's premier wedding venues. Visitors can stroll throughout the magnificent stone buildings dating back to 1918, and enjoy gorgeous gardens. A variety of museum quality collections featuring castles, antique toys, and royalty memorabilia from around the world are displayed throughout the buildings. The Castle's 1918 Museum showcases items from that time era, plus World War I memorabilia. Children delight in feeding the huge rainbow trout swimming in the Reflection Pond, playing a game of giant chess, or hide-and-seek with the fairies and gnomes dwelling in the Enchanted Forest. Our Self-Guided Tours offer Scavenger Hunt tours for children, too! Everyone loves The Castle's Garden Railroad; with more than 1/2 mile of track and 68 G-scale trains, it's one of the largest in the State. Listed on both the National and State Historic Registries, Castle Farms is a world-class historic property where old world charm and modern-day elegance enchant visitors of all ages.

We’re delighted you found Castle Farms so beautiful and amazing! We think it is, too! Our gardens are in glorious full bloom from early spring until the snow flies. Have you considered a winter wedding? Northern Michigan’s very own fairy-tale castle would make the perfect backdrop, and best of all, Castle Farms is open year round. Meanwhile, your compliments are much appreciated, and we'll be sure to share them with our staff.

“Castle Farms was a dream come true!”
Reviewed March 8, 2010

Our wedding was in September of 2009 and it was everything we wanted it to be. Talk about breathtaking scenery!!! The photos we received are gorgeous. My wife and I had many discussions leading up to the big day and we are so glad that we chose this place as a host. The staff treated us with the utmost respect and took care of all our special needs.

We love hearing from our Castle bridal couples, and we’re thrilled to know how happy you were with how everything worked out on your wedding day. Castle Farms, located in beautiful Northwest Lower Michigan, has the advantage of being able to offer bridal couples a true “4-season wedding package”; a September wedding offers a stunning backdrop against the soaring stone towers as the hardwoods surrounding the Castle grounds blaze in autumnal colors of fiery red, gold, and orange. We were also pleased to read your comments about how you were treated by our staff. Castle Farms has a large team of trained professionals who oversee and manage every detail of a couple’s wedding day. Knowing that you were treated with dignity and respect, and that all your needs were met, is exactly what we expect from our staff, and exactly what any bridal couple should expect ―and deserves― from a wedding venue. Congratulations again, on this your anniversary month!

“LOVED THE GARDEN RAILROAD”
Reviewed January 12, 2010

We came specifically to see the "G" scale garden railroad after reading about it in Garden Railroading magazine. It was good and i understand will be expanded. I was sorry to not find any info about it on the web-site. Perhaps that will be corrected. Overall the farm is very interesting.

Thank you so much for visiting Castle Farms! We’re thrilled that you enjoyed our Castle Garden Railroad. Our model train conductors work hard to ensure that the trains are always up and running on our Garden Railroad (one of the largest in the State of Michigan). The traditional Garden Railroad, which you saw during your visit, was built in 2008, and runs through a sleepy country town, showcasing numerous historical landmarks from Michigan’s rich railway history from the 1890s through the 1950s. During the summer of 2010, The Garden Railroad was expanded into two separate railroads, and we now have more than 44 G-scale trains running simultaneously on 1,800 feet of tiered track. The Fantasy Railroad expansion of 2010 features dragons, rabbits, swans and ladybugs, plus children's toys converted into trains, zipping along overhead track, across the Double Helix Tornado Tower and the Five Level Twin Coaster. Our 2011 addition, a covered display inside one of the Hedge Maze Towers, showcases Lionel trains, Pullman cars and even a circus train complete with elephant! You’ll be happy to hear that our website has been updated, and now includes lots of information (plus plenty of photos!) on the Castle Garden Railroad. Please let us know when you plan your next visit, and we’ll be sure to arrange a special chat for you and your family with one of our train conductors!

“Very interesting history and a truly unique place to see”
Reviewed January 4, 2010

Castle Farms has self guided tours and directed tours. I have only done a directed tour and I found the history of Castle Farms to be very interesting. While it is now mostly used for special events and weddings, it was formerly a working farm and a rock concert venue. The new owners have really dedicated themselves to the restoration and it really is a unique place. They continue to expand and have added kid friendly items like a toy train track. A trip to Charlevoix would not be complete without checking this gem out.

We’re so happy you enjoyed your visit to Castle Farms of Charlevoix, Northern Michigan’s very own fairy-tale castle. We agree that our owner, Linda Mueller, has done a magnificent job restoring The Castle buildings and property while remaining true to the vision of Albert Loeb, who originally built the Castle as a working model dairy farm in 1918. Nowadays, the cows are long gone, and The Castle gates are open to guests on guided or self-guided tours, plus bridal parties, corporate events, proms, anniversaries, and other special events. Castle Farms is open year round, and the expansions continue! We hope you’ll consider another visit in future!

“Castle Farms - Wedding Debacle”
Reviewed November 30, 2009

Castle Farms is a beautiful place. Most of the staff are friendly, kind, and helpful. I had my wedding there in October and for the most part had a WONDERFUL time. The problme I had was with our coordinator Anora (who happens to be the supervisor so telling about the problems got me nowhere since she is who I would have to talk to). The day of my wedding we could not find my coordinator Anora when we needed her. She said that she had another bridal tour that she had to do. (If she is the supervisor she should have not scheduled her to have that tour during the time of my wedding... or at least had someone else take care of it.) My husband showed up with his guys at the time he was supposed to and sat in the gift shop while she was paged over the walkies, someone even went to look for her and noone could find her. As they are waiting guests were walking in, past them, and being directed to the room. Then the photographer showed up and seen that he was still standing there and showed him where to go. Oh, we were supposed to have an outside ceremony but it was raining so we moved it inside to the chapel (which was the end of our hall we rented). They were supposed to section off that part and bring the guests in and out the back way so they didn't walk through the actual reception hall before hand...NOPE they took them right through the hall. To top everything off when Anora was around she told the dj how to plug in the specific equipment we asked for. He told her he wouldn't do it that way, and she KNEW that it would blow a fuse, and instead of telling me (or my father who was the go to contact that they HAD TO HAVE on their paperwork for emergencies) she let my DJ blow a fuse...not once, but 3 times, before it was fixed. This made people start leaving way before the end of the reception. When I called and emailed to talk to someon incharge...of course it was her, and she didn't do anything wrong, and didn't want to bother me. I paid almost $6000 for my wedding, and after fighting with her she agreed to a refund of $200.... very little considering she sat back and let it happen.

Unfortunately there is *quite a bit* of misinformation posted in this review including the amount paid for their wedding, the problems with the DJ, and the refund issues. I'd be more than happy to discuss the review professionally, in detail with any concerned parties. Thanks.
